Multi-talented producer, songwriter, and jazz singer Miriam Altman has released her debut album, The Butterfly Project, and is now performing nationwide, bringing her three-octave vocals, poetic songwriting, and African rhythms to the stage.
Here’s everything listeners need to know.

More about Miriam Altman
Widely known as an economist and social activist, Miriam Altman has followed her passion for music in a brand-new venture. The Butterfly Project is a vocal jazz album that blends contemporary sounds with traditional African rhythms to create a unique eight-track record.
The album is extremely versatile, moving from upbeat, funky grooves to more spacious, atmospheric ballads, all anchored by Altman’s ever-present vocals. It was produced alongside award-winning pianist Luyanda Madope, with features from Tendai Shoko, Sunnyboy Mthimunye, Lungile Kunene, Tlale Makhene, Dalisu Ndlazi, Kuki Mokubetsi, Seredeal “Shaggy” Scheepers, Byron Abrahams and Keno Carelse.
Inspired by a tumultuous personal time and Altman’s move to Cape Town, The Butterfly Project concert is a classical jazz journey brought to life by the singer, a grand piano, and a full band.
