DSK Bazaar: Family-Friendly Festival by Day, Oktoberfest by Night

Once a year, the DSK Bazaar transforms the German International School Cape Town (DSK) in Tamboerskloof into a festive hub of authentic German food, beer, live music, market stalls and fun activities for all ages. Bringing together Cape Town’s German community and market lovers, the Bazaar celebrates the start of summer and raises funds for important initiatives.

Keeping with tradition, guests kick off the weekend with live music from the “Oompah” band Songscape in the afternoon, followed by Dandy & the Kicks and, lastly, the Namibian band “Die toten Onkelz”. All this while enjoying German specialities like Bratwurst, crispy Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) straight off the grill, cold beer, halal and vegetarian-friendly options, and much more.

The official opening features a traditional Oktoberfest beer tapping ceremony, before moving on to festive games and activities celebrating the authentic German holiday. The Christmas Market and Alumni Bar will also be open on Friday, along with selected kids’ activities on the sports field.

On Saturday morning, the market re-opens to visitors, bringing new local and international bands, including two-man rock show Vox & Spand-X. Those with a sweet tooth can try the freshly baked cakes and sweet treats available on the day.

Fun for Kids & the whole Family

Alongside the music, families can look forward to rides, youth activities, and unique market stalls – making the DSK Bazaar an entertaining day for all ages.

The beloved 120m zipline returns, alongside a sweeper obstacle, rocket launcher, carousel, bubble soccer, football games, bull riding, bow-and-arrow challenges, arts and crafts, face painting, and much more.

For teens and older kids, the Youth Park on Saturday offers extra entertainment: a pool party with DJs at the school’s outdoor swimming pool (don’t forget your swim gear) and a Youth Stage filled with live performances from young musicians and school bands.

Amazing Raffle Prizes

Don’t miss the popular Online Raffle, with fantastic prizes up for grabs valued at over R130 000 – including two return flights from Cape Town to Istanbul, sponsored by Turkish Airlines, as the grand prize. Tickets are only R50, with other prizes including R10,000 cash, a skydiving experience, exciting getaways, an online shopping voucher and much more.

Unique Stalls & Art Gallery

The Christmas Market is another festive attraction on both days, with decorations, creative gifts, and treats. Adults can try the Alumni Bar, the ever-popular German Glühwein (warm, spiced red wine), and Limoncello while enjoying the Artists Gallery exhibition of work by renowned artists.

All market stalls are open on Saturday, including a second-hand boutique, flea market and book stall for those looking for hidden gems.
