Every week, Mavericks plays host to drag kings, queens, and in-betweens in a variety show where anything goes. After launching as a limited Thursday-only series, Madame JoJo’s has been extended until December 2026, with Fridays also joining the party.

What’s new at Madame JoJo’s

Extended until December 2026, the new season sees a rotating cast of new performers join the club for the first time in a limited run of special Halloween shows.

Cirque Noir runs for six nights only throughout mid-October, with dark carnival production, live circus performers, and an all-female DJ lineup that demands bold costumes to enter. The best part? Tickets are even cheaper than usual, making the experience more accessible to anyone wanting a spookier night out.

Madame JoJo’s is also no longer a weekday-only event, with Fridays joining the regular Thursday schedule from 6 November to mid-December.

While Lilly Slaptsilli continues to host Thursday nights, beloved performer Miss Vanessa Harris becomes Madame JoJo exclusive on Fridays, bringing her own distinctive cabaret style to the proceedings. While the exact debauchery may vary nightly, guests can expect the same tantalising performances and Madame JoJo’s unique energy every time.

After a successful one-night competition of comedy acts and show-stopping lip-syncing from the Mother City’s fiery queens, Mavericks is becoming a regular platform for Madame JoJo’s shows and a home to Cape Town’s thriving drag community.

The night starts with half-priced cocktails from 7pm, followed by a mix of cabaret noir, sensual burlesque, surprise acts, and, of course, shows from many of the Mother City’s drag performers. After-dark is where the night kicks into gear, with DJs, go-go dancers, and a whole host of antics and mystery performances throughout the rest of the show – all hosted by Madame JoJo, played by celebrated South African drag artist and comedian Lilly Slaptsilli herself.

The event takes place in the club’s VIP Empire Lounge, Mavericks’ very own luxury section with deep leather couches reminiscent of 1920s gentlemen’s clubs, giving every viewer an exclusive experience as they take in the glamorous and provocative show inspired by the iconic London nightclub, Madame Jojo’s.

The “velvet hour” from 7pm to 8pm kicks the night off with half-priced cocktails, followed by the main cabaret, burlesque and drag performances until 10.30pm, from which the show turns into a party as the music gets louder and everyone is encouraged to let loose.

Everyone is encouraged to “dress beyond convention” as there is an award up for grabs for each night’s “best dressed” guest. Exclusive cabaret cone canapés are served throughout the night, made to pair with Mavericks’ handcrafted cocktails.

Whether it’s a party, an exotic date night, or a solo evening out on the town, Madame JoJo’s is the best excuse to dress up and enjoy live entertainment unlike anywhere else in the Mother City.
