In honour of Women’s Day, Zeitz MOCAA are hosting a joyful morning of art-making, conversation, and Hazendal MCC. In connection with One Must Be Seated by Ghanaian-American artist Rita Mawuena Benissan, guests can explore the themes of the exhibition while unleashing their creativity. Here’s everything you need to know.

What to Expect From the Workshop
Unleash your inner creativity this Women’s Day with Zeitz MOCAA’s Art-Making and MCC workshop. Inspired by One Must Be Seated, a powerful exhibition by Ghanaian-American artist Rita Mawuena Benissan currently on view at the museum, guests can craft their own miniature stool and explore themes of power, belonging, and aspiration in a warm, creative space.
One Must Be Seated, on exhibition until October 2025, celebrates the rich traditions of Ghanaian culture, with a focus on Asante customs. The exhibition layout simulates the enstoolment tradition, with each successive gallery symbolising a stage in the process. Through tapestry, sculpture, photography and video, Benissan’s work upholds the craftsman and artisans who uphold the traditions of the chieftaincy.
The workshop ticket includes all materials, lunch, and beverages, with MCC supplied by Hazendal Wine Estate.
