Puss In Boots Pantomime
Written and directed by Steven Stead, this family pantomime is presented by KickstArt Theatre, a Durban-based non-profit company with over 170 local and national awards and a two-decade track record of large-scale productions at major South African venues. The production follows last year’s warmly received Jack and the Beanstalk at the same venue, continuing KickstArt’s annual tradition of holiday-season pantomimes.
Set on a Caribbean island, the story centres on a quick-witted cat, armed with a clever plan and a pair of boots, who navigates magical twists and comic misadventures to alter his owner’s fortunes. The cast includes Rory Booth in the title role, Belinda Henwood as good fairy Calypso Honeybunch, Bryan Hiles as the villainous Grimsby Withergood, and Kyran Brady Taylor as Tom Marzipan. They are joined by Blessing Xaba, Lyle Buxton, Roshanda Lewis, Mthokozisi Zulu and Grace MacIlroy. Design is by Greg King, choreography by Simone Mann, and lighting by Frany Steyn.
The production runs approximately two hours, including an interval, with weekday matinees and selected morning and afternoon performances throughout the school holiday period. It is recommended for children aged four and up.

LEGACY Ball
LEGACY x SSS is the latest edition of LEGACY, Cape Town’s ongoing Ballroom event series produced by Edition Events and co-created by Rori Bingham. The series was established as a tribute to the late Kirvan Fortuin, known within the community as Kirvan Le Cap, the dancer, choreographer and LGBTQ+ rights activist who founded the House of Le Cap in 2017, South Africa’s first Ballroom house, and was fatally stabbed in a suspected hate crime in June 2020.
Ballroom culture originated in New York in the 1980s within Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities as a response to exclusion, creating a space where participants could compete, be seen, and express identity freely. The South African scene, built significantly on Fortuin’s foundation, has developed its own distinct character, including the African Performance category, created by Fortuin, which integrates South African genres such as Amapiano, Gqom, and Kwaito with local dance styles like Pantsula, Gwara Gwara, and Vosho.
The June edition marks a collaboration between LEGACY and SSS, centred on the Ball itself, in which participants “walk” through competitive categories before a judging panel, with the African-American “dandy” movement as a theme. The event is open to all: walkers competing in categories, spectators, and those attending the surrounding party.
Cost: From R150 per person (general). Book now on Quicket.
When: Saturday, 27 June 2026 | 8pm – 2am
Where: Hearty at The Old Biscuit Mill, 375 Albert Road, Woodstock, Cape Town
