One&Only Cape Town, renowned for its luxurious resort lifestyle and exceptional dining, has unveiled its latest culinary venture. ROOI is a new grill room in Cape Town that aims to redefine traditional dining experiences by celebrating South African influences from the menu to the décor.
The name “ROOI,” which means “red” in Afrikaans, embodies power and vitality, symbolising the flames that are central to the restaurant’s concept. Located within the esteemed resort, ROOI joins four other distinguished dining outlets, including Nobu and the Mediterranean-inspired Isola.

Winter Flames: July at ROOI Grillroom
To celebrate the cold-weather season in Cape Town, ROOI is serving up an exclusive experience that continues its tradition of using local ingredients and sustainably sourced seafood. The four-course event starts with a creamy cauliflower soup garnished with toasted granola and parmesan, before moving on to a creative rooikrans-charred butternut barley with pickled butternut and smoked duck breast.
For the main course, guests can choose among three options, catering to meat-lovers, vegans, and pescatarians. The big attraction is a prime rump steak, cooked on a premium Josper grill, and served with a side of samp and beans casserole, fire-roasted carrots, and crispy bone marrow. Seafood lovers can try the fennel-spiced grilled kingklip, which comes with fennel root, a creamy beurre noisette velouté sauce, and classic ROOI-style pap and chakalaka. Guests wanting to steer clear of meat get a gourmet charred cabbage dish featuring white bean purée, toasted cashews, harissa dressing, and roasted grape salsa.
Finally, dessert is a sticky date, pecan, and walnut crumble with vanilla bean ice cream and chilli toffee sauce, finishing the night off on a warm, nutty note – a suitable ending for a winter dinner experience.
Cost: R695 per person. Book now by contacting [email protected] or 021 431 5888.

What’s on the menu at ROOI
At this sophisticated dining space, guests can venture on a culinary journey into the flavours of Cape Town and South African food culture.
The team at ROOI reimagines the idea of braai with a gourmet touch, bringing land and sea to your plate. In South Africa, braai (or barbeque) is a much-loved communal gathering where friends and family enjoy a meal cooked over hot coals or wood, accompanied by flowing conversation and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere.
Dishes are anchored in sustainably sourced cuts and ingredients from local suppliers. Guests can indulge in a selection of steaks, including South African Wagyu and Prime Beef steaks, and ‘ROOI Selects’ such as Aged Mutton, Kalahari Venison, and Masala Spiced Kingklip. The seafood offering on the menu is highlighted by flame-grilled South Coast Rock Lobster and tuna. To end, try classic South African desserts such as pampoen kaaskoek (pumpkin cheesecake) and Malva pudding.
Premium drink experiences
Included in the ROOI team are the Wine Stewards, brimming with oenology knowledge and ready at a moment’s notice to provide valuable insights on local wines.
The Tasting Table and Wine Loft provide an immersive wine experience, showcasing a carefully curated list featuring boutique vineyards and lesser-known wine farms, with knowledgeable wine stewards available to guide tastings and suggest pairings for each meal.
And the bespoke Cap Classique cart does the rounds with a refined list of premium, lesser-known Cap Classiques from the surrounding wine regions.
To complement the dining experience, the beverage menu offers premium craft beers and spirits, Cape wines, and a curated mixology selection with signature cocktails inspired by South Africa’s nine provinces.

Local craft and design
The design of ROOI blends local artistry with natural elements, featuring a Pincushion Protea motif and wooden seats inspired by Ankole cattle. Stone and wood elements create an inviting atmosphere where modern luxury meets local tradition, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
The centrepiece of the open kitchen is a stunning tapestry of forged metal tiling in purple, rust, silver, and platinum, crafted by Bronze Age, adding a striking theatrical element to the room.
