Toy Story 5

The fifth instalment of the popular film series about sentient childhood toys sees the toy crew encounter a new foe: technology. The story takes a cue from real life, introducing a technological device that threatens to leave the toys abandoned and obsolete.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return to voice Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, with the rest of the toy cast being voiced by other all-stars, including Craig Robinson, Greta Lee, Joan Cusack, Keanu Reeves and more. South Africans are sure to recognise local pop superstar Tyla, who lends her voice to the brand-new character, the Inflatable Flamingo. The film’s trailer can be viewed here.

Toy Story 5 opens in theatres on 19 June 2026. Bookings can be made on the Ster-Kinekor website.

Minions & Monsters

The latest film in the iconic kids franchise sees the minions in 1920s Hollywood, as they search for frightening creatures for their monster movie, partner with a green creature, and must save the planet after unleashing monsters.

The all-star voice cast includes Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, and Zoey Deutch. The film’s trailer is available to watch here.

In addition to the new movie, Minions fans can enjoy a fun-filled character roadshow at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas between 27 June and 19 July, offering photo opportunities and interactive entertainment so young moviegoers can meet their favourites. The Minions will be at V&A Waterfront on 5 July (11am – 4pm) and at Blue Route Mall on 7 July (11am – 4pm).

Minions & Monsters opens in theatres on 26 June 2026. Bookings can be made on the Ster-Kinekor website.

Moana

A live-action adaptation of the beloved Disney animation, Moana follows the titular character as she leaves her home island of Motunui for the first time. Accompanied by the demigod Maui, she undertakes a voyage aimed at recovering the well-being of her community.

The film stars Catherine Laga’aia in her film debut as Moana, while Dwayne Johnson reprises his role of the fan-favourite Maui. The trailer can be viewed here.

Moana opens in theatres on 10 July 2026. Bookings can be made on the Ster-Kinekor website. Note: Moana contains several sequences with flashing lights that may affect those who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or have other photo sensitivities.

For families who like a trip down memory lane, Ster-Kinekor’s Throwback Cinema promotion brings back some classic family favourites to the big screen, with heavily discounted tickets at just R50 per person.

Stuart Little returns to select cinemas from 26 June for a limited two-week run. When the Little family adopts Stuart, George is initially unwelcoming to his new ’brother’, while the family cat, Snowbell, is even less enthusiastic. Stuart resolves to face these difficulties with all the courage his little self can muster. Relive the old-school trailer here.

This is followed by the delightful musical Annie from 10 July. Annie, an orphan in a facility run by the mean Miss Hannigan, believes her parents left her there by mistake. When a rich man named Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks decides to let an orphan live at his home to promote his image, Annie is selected. While Annie gets accustomed to living in Warbucks’ mansion, she still longs to meet her parents, so Warbucks announces a search for them with a reward. The trailer’s classic songs and jokes are available here.

Teens are also set for a winter of big films, with the release of two highly anticipated blockbusters, both filmed for IMAX. First up is the latest superhero movie, Supergirl, soaring into cinemas including IMAX® screens from 25 June. A few weeks later, Christopher Nolan’s epic historical adventure The Odyssey, the first film to be shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, releases in IMAX® from 17 July. Both Supergirl and The Odyssey‘s heart-pumping trailers are available on YouTube.
