For one night only, Cape Town’s adventurous music lovers are invited to a cathedral-like sonic experience that transforms an intimate sound bath into a theatrical production. Going beyond the traditional concert to bring audiences deeper into the sounds themselves, Immersion is a historic sensory event held in City Hall’s storied walls.
Here’s everything guests need to know.

With more than 150 acoustic instruments playing across 105 minutes of uninterrupted sound, Immersion is a truly unique sonic experience for Cape Town audiences. Building on the concept of a sound bath, each performer and vocalist adds their own piece to the puzzle, creating a living composition in real time as the sounds shift and change throughout the night. Each artist responds to the others and the cclaimed acoustics of City Hall itself, creating a live soundscape unlike anything heard before.
Using everything from singing bowls and didgeridoos to gongs and monolinas, the performance creates a 360-degree field of sound, with the goal of creating a meditative atmosphere to soothe and calm audience members in their seats – no yoga mats required. Guests are invited to clear their minds and feel the instruments and voices surround them from the comfort of their seats. A specially designed sound system further enhances the experience.
Joining the instrumentalists are talented young vocalists from Khayelitsha’s Ikhono Youth Choir, led by Wande Coko. Beyond a traditional choir, Immersion asks them to treat each voice as an instrument, lifting and fading in the night’s dynamic composition.
The ensemble is led by creator, conductor and sound performer Chris Roland, alongside featured sound performers Antoinette Bishop, Janet Farquharson, Paola Masullo, Sadek Ezzideen and Ylinel Trujillo.
