As Africa’s leading documentary festival, it once again boasts a robust lineup of compelling documentaries set to captivate audiences across Cape Town (and Johannesburg) from 20 to 30 June.
The Encounters South African International Documentary Festival offers intriguing glimpses into global politics and is a vital platform for fostering dialogue, social cohesion, and the nurturing of documentary filmmakers. See our top picks here.
What’s Different This Year?
This year, in partnership with Cinema Solidarity, Encounters Festival presents a Palestine Focus with three stirring documentaries on the topic. Cinema Solidarity is a collective of African filmmakers who believe art is critical in times of crisis. They stand in solidarity with the struggles of people against oppression and malevolent forms of power in an increasingly connected world. As filmmakers, they aim to use cinema as a bridge to empathy, dialogue, gathering, and connection.
