What To Expect at the OUTsurance Gun Run This Year

The first run of the new season and one of the biggest in Cape Town, the OUTsurance Gun Run is back, inviting runners to shake off the winter rust and kick summer off with a medal.

As usual, fitness enthusiasts take to the coastal roads of the Atlantic Seaboard for a fast-paced, scenic race through the Mother City. In 2026, there’s even more to take in, with up-and-coming athletes, an all-new recovery experience for tired legs, and Olympian Khoarahlane Seutloali returning to defend his title.

Here’s everything runners and viewers need to know.

OUTsurance Gun Run 2026

As usual, runners take part in a range of races, from the brisk 5km and family-friendly pet walk to the challenging 10km and the headline half-marathon. The detailed routes for each run are available online.

Entries are now closed, with runners and walkers training for the events on Saturday and Sunday. Still, there’s plenty of information for participants and viewers to follow this year.

The biggest storyline for South African running fans is undoubtedly the return of Khoarahlane Seutloali, last year’s champion and the current course record holder. The Lesotho-born long-distance runner is one of the hottest names in African athletics, winning the Two Oceans Marathon in 2025 and representing his home country in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Seutloali is joined by rising star Tsepo Ramashamole, another Mosotho runner ranked 512th in men’s road running, who ran 02:23:16 in this year’s Two Oceans, with a personal half-marathon best of 1:02.30. Both Under Armour athletes are looking to take the win this weekend, with Ramashamole hoping for a statement victory and Seutloali looking to cement his legacy as a Gun Run great.

After crossing the finish line, participants can head to the race village for treatment at Hotel Armoure, Under Armour’s premium recovery facility designed especially for the Gun Run. 10km and half-marathon runners can expect access to recovery boots, sports massages, ice baths, and expert guidance from fitness professionals.

Runners can pick up their Gun Run numbers and equipment from selected Sportsmans Warehouses across Cape Town from Thursday (10 Sept) to Saturday (12 Sept). Anyone moving around the city should note the expected road closures, which are available on the website.

Where to go & what to do

While Cape Town’s dedicated athletes try their best to get a personal best or compete for the win, families and friends are encouraged to cheer on their loved ones along the route. All races finish on the Green Point Common, with food stalls, a kiddies play area, and family-friendly fun for everyone.
