The second China to Cape Book Fair offers a cultural exchange between China and South Africa, with a showcase of over 1,000 books from Loot.co.za and the Chinese International Book Trading Group. The book fair, hosted by the Chinese language teachers Association in South Africa, will take place from Thursday, 28 August 2025, to 1 September 2025, at Workshop 17, The Watershed, at the V&A Waterfront.

Exclusive Cookbook Launches by Local Chefs
South African chefs Kamini Pather and Ilse van der Merwe launch their new cookbooks this weekend at the China to Cape Book Fair.
On Saturday, 30 August, renowned cook and food writer Ilse van der Merwe launches her cookbook Timeless South African, a curated list of 101 iconic South African dishes – food not only revered as highly recognisable heritage classics, but also everyday dishes that are loved and prepared in many South African households today.
Winner of the second series of MasterChef South Africa, Kamini Pather, launches her cookbook All Dhal’d Up on Sunday, 31 August. The cookbook is a collection of ancestral recipes that have been updated with modern ingredients and techniques. It melds the old world with a modern twist.

Attend the Opening Ceremony of the China to Cape Book Fair
The opening ceremony is open to all book enthusiasts on Saturday, 30 August, from 10am to 12pm. The programme includes guest speeches, book donations and light refreshments. The ceremony is free but registration is required. RSVP HERE
More About the Chinese language teachers in South Africa
The Chinese language teachers in South Africa have a verifiable history of nearly 80 years. Both private and public schools established by local Chinese and overseas Chinese South African or Chinese teachers (dispatched by the Chinese government) have been working intensively to develop the Chinese language.
In 2016, Chinese (Mandarin) was announced to be accepted as a second additional language by the South African Basic Education Department.
