Cape Town City Ballet: Orpheus in the Underworld
Step into the dazzling world of Orpheus in the Underworld, a ballet bursting with wit, glamour, and irresistible charm! Loosely inspired by Jacques Offenbach’s comic operetta, this 1920s set production features flapper girls, Mafia henchmen, Can-Can dancers, and even a penthouse swimming pool for the Gods. The show features music specially arranged by Michael Tuffin.

Jive Cape Town Funny Festival
Then Jive Cape Town Funny Festival is South Africa’s oldest and foremost comedy festival, showcasing the best local stand-up comedians together with top international variety acts at the Baxter Theatre.
Alan Committee is the Master of Ceremonies for the festival, which features acts like shadow artist Matteo Fraziano, Britain’s Got Talent finalist Mike Woodhams, local comedians Jason Goliath and Robby Collins, and much more.
During the lead-up to the event, the Jive Funny Championship is held to crown the funniest comedian in Cape Town, and anyone can enter. The winner is then given their own set during the Funny Festival lineup and performs in front of a packed Baxter crowd.

Encounters Documentary Festival
Now in its 28th year, the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival is Africa’s premier documentary festival, highlighting some of the world’s most pressing issues and celebrating local and international visionaries in the film industry.
Tackling topics such as rural poverty, homophobia, American doctors working in Gaza and the legacy of apartheid, the festival is a crucial point of information for raising awareness around global and local issues. The festival is taking place in both Cape Town and Johannesburg from 4 to 14 June, and highlights the increasingly important role that filmmakers play in the modern world.
There are over 25 features screening at this year’s edition, including four films from South African teams making their world premiere at Encounters. Other authentically African narratives, such as Tutu and The Eyes of Ghana, are making their long-awaited African homecoming debuts after touring internationally. Additionally, many acclaimed and emerging filmmakers are participating in live Q&As, Panel Discussions, and industry events to discuss their latest works.

Running for Transformation
Every year, Youth in Transformation hosts its fundraiser, ‘Running for Transformation’, which consists of both a 5km and a 10km run in aid of local community charities in Cape Town. Runners can bring the whole family along, as there is coffee, food, and fun activities for the kids.
Funds raised from the event will go toward the organisation’s youth-based projects, including the Butterfly Project and the Buntu Majalaza Scholarship. Walkers are also allowed, ensuring an inclusive experience for all who want to raise money for charity.

Constellations
The 2026 season of How Now Brown Cow kicks off with Constellations, directed by acclaimed industry veteran and choreographer Jay Pather. The play, which premiered at the Royal Court Theatre before moving to the West End, follows a physicist and a beekeeper in a relationship that evolves, twists, and rewrites itself before the audience’s eyes.
This mind-bending, reality-altering play was originally written by Nick Payne, who has received Olivier and Tony Award nominations for his work and wrote the A24 romance film We Live In Time.
In this production, Marianne is played by Mwenya Kabwe, an award-winning Zambian-born performer known for her roles in Doubt and mAnJE! MaNje. Mark Elderkin plays Roland, himself a renowned actor who has starred in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Amadeus, as well as in various film and TV roles.
Theatre lovers looking for something that pushes the art form and plays with expectations can look to Constellations, which uses the language of quantum physics to tell a simple story about the complexity of love, for a unique and moving experience.

Youth Day Dive Special
To celebrate Youth Day and the start of the school holidays at the Two Oceans Aquarium, kids enjoy a two-for-one deal on an exclusive scuba diving experience. The package includes a professionally guided introduction to the ins and outs of scuba diving and the necessary equipment.
Thereafter, kids are led through their first-ever underwater diving experience, under the watchful eyes of trained experts. Finally, the experience concludes with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Turtle Conservation Centre, the Aquarium’s very own rescue service dedicated to protecting endangered sea turtles.

Community Paddle Out to Celebrate World Oceans Day
A free community paddle out takes place at Three Anchor Bay in Sea Point on Saturday, two days ahead of the United Nations’ annual World Oceans Day on 8 June. The event is open to anyone with a kayak, surfboard, stand-up paddleboard (SUP), canoe, or any other non-motorised watercraft, and is centred on ocean awareness, conservation, and community gathering rather than competition or performance.
World Oceans Day has been officially recognised by the United Nations since 2008 and takes place annually on 8 June. The 2026 global theme, “Reimagine: Beyond The World We Know, A New Relationship With Our Ocean,” focuses on rethinking how communities engage with and protect the ocean for future generations.
Three Anchor Bay is a small cove on the Atlantic Seaboard, used regularly by kayakers and SUP paddlers as a launch point, with a slipway directly from the adjacent car park onto the water. The event is weather dependent, with final confirmation to be communicated closer to the date if conditions are unfavourable. No advance booking or registration is required.

Broadway to Blockbuster
Broadway to Blockbuster is a two-concert programme presented by the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town at Cape Town City Hall in June 2026. The concerts are conducted by Richard Cock, former Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra of South Africa and Artistic Director of the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra, widely recognised as one of South Africa’s most experienced orchestral conductors. He is joined by South African tenor Jonathan Roxmouth, who has performed the title role in The Phantom of the Opera both in South Africa and internationally, and whose repertoire spans opera, musical theatre and concert performance.
The programme moves between Broadway and film, encompassing numbers from The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Les Misérables, West Side Story, and The Phantom of the Opera, alongside popular music and cinema orchestrations including Bohemian Rhapsody and Ennio Morricone’s score from The Mission. The Philharmonia Orchestra accompanies the choir throughout and performs orchestral suites from the film scores of John Williams (Star Wars), Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean), and music from Superman and The Lord of the Rings.

Conrad Koch’s Chester’s Got Talent
Chester’s Got Talent is the latest live show from South African comedian and ventriloquist Conrad Koch, who is double International Emmy-nominated and best known for his puppet Chester Missing, a fictional political commentator who rose to prominence through Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola, satirising the Jacob Zuma administration and interviewing politicians in a humorous style.
The show is structured as a puppet talent competition in which Koch’s full ensemble of characters including Gunter the German mosquito, Hilton the dramatic ostrich, DJ Hoodie (a puppet who actually DJs), Mr Dixon the high school teacher, and a surprise guest star, compete for the title of best puppet. Chester Missing, characteristically, refuses to follow the format and delivers his unfiltered commentary on the proceedings. The audience serves as the judging panel, voting on the outcome throughout the night.

Don Vino Saxy Vibes 8
Saxy Vibes 8 is the eighth edition of Cape Town saxophonist Don Vino’s signature concert series, returning to the Grand Arena at GrandWest following a recent international tour. Born Donveno Prins and raised in Epping Forest, Elsies River, Don Vino began his musical career on banjo and trumpet before settling on saxophone at the age of 15. He has since performed internationally across Europe, Dubai, Australia and the United States, sharing stages with Grammy Award winners including Kirk Whalum, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Jonathan Butler and Gerald Veasley.
Drawing on R&B, gospel and jazz, Don Vino has built the Saxy Vibes series into one of the Cape Town live music calendar’s most consistently popular events, with previous editions selling out venues from the Good Hope Christian Centre in Ottery to the Grand Arena. International Day of Yoga
This year is the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Yoga. To celebrate, yoga communities from across the Mother City are gathering to meet each other, attend classes, and support a good cause.

For one night only, Mavericks hosts a fierce Drag Competition where some of Cape Town’s boldest queens fight for Madame Jojo’s crown.

Killer Queen: LAMTA Dance Production
LAMTA’s annual dance productions have become a regular feature on the local performance calendar, with previous productions including Come Together, Hollywood, Vintage Jukebox, and Beyond: A Cirque Fantasy drawing strong audience attendance.
This year’s production, Killer Queen, pays tribute to the British rock band Queen through a dance-focused interpretation of the group’s music and stage legacy. Inspired by frontman Freddie Mercury and the band’s rise to international success, the production examines the story of four musicians who became one of the most influential acts in popular music.

State Of The Youth Address
By the youth and for the youth, this innovative platform invites young leaders to step into unofficial “minister” roles, presenting their ideas on future issues and how to address them.
The format recreates a parliamentary setting without political parties, encouraging constructive conversations among the country’s young adults about leadership, civic participation, and the future of South Africa. Some of the themes at this year’s edition include tech & AI, youth employment, health, cyber-safety, climate change, and gender-based violence & femicide (GBVF).

Norval Student Art Prize
Norval Foundation is inviting young people across Cape Town to share their voices and showcase their work. Using the theme DREAM, students from Grade 1 to 12 are encouraged to submit artworks that explore their thoughts, hopes, and dreams for the future of South Africa.
Submissions are grouped into four categories, ensuring four winners from different age groups are represented. Winning artworks are being showcased in an exhibition at Norval Foundation, which opens on 16 June 2026 (Youth Day).

Winter Baroque Season
The Cape Town Baroque Orchestra (CTBO) launches its first Winter Baroque Season in 2026, a three-concert series presenting chamber music, early vocal repertoire, and orchestral works across two Cape Town venues. The series is directed by CTBO Artistic Director Dr Erik Dippenaar, who performs as harpsichord soloist and continuo player across all three events.
The season opens on 10 June with Bach in Dialogue, a chamber concert featuring South African-born, US-based harpsichordist Leon Schelhase alongside CTBO musicians Annien Shaw and Rosamund Roth. The programme focuses on the chamber works of Johann Sebastian Bach and examines the composer’s contrapuntal writing through musical interplay between performers.

Steelband Showcase at the Waterfront
Multiple steel bands representing schools and community centres from across the Western Cape perform together at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre in this free outdoor concert. The steelpan is an instrument originating from Trinidad and Tobago, traditionally fashioned from recycled 44-gallon oil drums. Here, 12 active bands from diverse backgrounds collaborate live on stage, performing a mix of popular songs with an Afro-Caribbean flavour.
The event is presented by the Steelband Project, a non-profit organisation founded in 1997 by Liz Brouckaert and David Wickham with a focus on music education for youth from under-resourced communities across rural, suburban and township areas of the province.

Puss In Boots Pantomime
Written and directed by Steven Stead, this family pantomime is presented by KickstArt Theatre, a Durban-based non-profit company with over 170 local and national awards and a two-decade track record of large-scale productions at major South African venues. The production follows last year’s warmly received Jack and the Beanstalk at the same venue, continuing KickstArt’s annual tradition of holiday-season pantomimes.
Set on a Caribbean island, the story centres on a quick-witted cat, armed with a clever plan and a pair of boots, who navigates magical twists and comic misadventures to alter his owner’s fortunes. The cast includes Rory Booth in the title role, Belinda Henwood as good fairy Calypso Honeybunch, Bryan Hiles as the villainous Grimsby Withergood, and Kyran Brady Taylor as Tom Marzipan. The production runs approximately two hours, including an interval, with weekday matinees and selected morning and afternoon performances throughout the school holiday period. It is recommended for children aged four and up.

Cape Town Philharmonic Winter Symphonies
The Cape Town Philharmonic returns with its Winter Symphonies concert series, consisting of four concerts with international soloists and revered local conductors.
The season kicks off with Dutch conductor Arjan Tien and pianist Nikola Meeuwsen. The latter, a gold medalist at the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2025, is known for his powerful, colourful playing style. Tien, the CPO’s principal guest conductor, directs the orchestra for this tribute to Beethoven.
It continues with a performance featuring South African pianists Nina Schumann and Megan Geoffrey-Prins, and a later show with Hayoung Choi, an international star cellist who has won first place at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and the Krzysztof Penderecki Cello Competition in Kraków.
The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra concludes its Winter Symphony season with violinist Daniel Rowland and conductor Bernhard Gueller.

As the only dedicated chocolate cafe in the city, Honest Chocolate prides itself on its commitment to quality ingredients sourced from local suppliers and offers a wide range of vegan, cane sugar-free, and gluten-free treats.
At the end of the month, they are hosting a behind-the-scenes experience that takes participants through the full chocolate journey, including a live chocolate-making demonstration, a hands-on bonbon-dipping workshop, and even the chance to make an original chocolate.
