What is The Chosen about?
The third season of The Chosen was packed with drama and excitement. Jesus miraculously fed a sea of people, walked on the actual sea, and singlehandedly calmed a wild and raging storm. With all that epic excitement, one might expect smoother sailing in season four of The Chosen.
However, the series enters its most tumultuous season yet as Jesus’ widespread fame and following attract the attention of the religious and political elite—for whom he’s now a rival. His followers struggle to keep up as his enemies close in, leaving him to carry the burden alone.
Actor Jonathan Roumie returns to play the lead role of Jesus. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, the show shares an authentic and intimate look at his revolutionary life and teachings. The implications of Jesus’ radical message continue to sink in for his followers as they struggle to understand their role. He and his followers face their biggest challenges yet. Loyalties are strained, faith is tested and tensions boil.
Jesus finds himself more isolated than ever as pressure from the highest levels of political and religious authorities continues to mount. A major overall theme is the idea of light from the darkness—audiences will see joy come from grief, hope from sorrow, and life from death.
