There’s a new winery in town – yes, right in town! Minimalist Wines is a new boutique working cellar on the corner of Hope Street in Gardens and home to some of the finest, world-class Syrahs produced in the Cape. The cellar practices minimal intervention wine-making techniques in their converted factory space in the upcoming Roodehek Precinct. Here’s everything you need to know.
About Minimalist Wines
A clue to what you can expect from Minimalist Wines is in the name. The ethic of this cellar starts with their minimal intervention style of winemaking and extends to everything, including their pared-back, industrial chic space in the Roodehek Precinct, which contains everything needed to run a world-class cellar efficiently. And nothing more.
If you visit, make sure to book a tour of the cellar – with its state-of-the-art concrete Nico Velo tanks – and a guided tasting with new generation winemakers, Sam and Henry, both still in their 20s. Enjoy a charcuterie board from the neighbouring FlourMarket (a Truth Coffee venture) as the pair share their knowledge and infectious passion for their craft, as well as the stories behind Minimalist Wines’ three exceptional cool-climate Syrahs: Stars In The Dark, Connect The Dots and No Place Like Home.

Book a guided tasting and tour
Visitors are welcome during office hours and wines are available for purchase, but because it is a working cellar, access cannot be guaranteed without a DinePlan booking.
Tasting tours for up to 14 people can be booked on DinePlan, and take place daily at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Please allow 90 minutes for the tour, which includes tasting three premium Syrahs and enjoying a charcuterie board. The tour is priced at R350 per person.
Wines can be purchased on the website. Private, bespoke event bookings can also be made by arrangement.
