The beloved international production of MAMMA MIA! The Musical! returns to South Africa, inviting audiences to experience ABBA’s greatest hits performed live within the beloved story of family, love, and friendship on a Greek island paradise.
Here’s everything Cape Town’s Super Troupers need to know.

More about Mamma Mia!
Written by Catherine Johnson, Mamma Mia! follows daughter and bride-to-be Sophie on the evening of her wedding, when she invites three men from her mother’s past back to the island they visited 20 years ago in the hope of discovering which one is her father. The story, reimagined in the fan-favourite film of the same name, tackles themes of parenthood and growing up, as well as the trials and tribulations of romance and ever-lasting love.
The jukebox musical features nearly all of Swedish pop supergroup ABBA’s most beloved tracks, including Dancing Queen, Money, Money, Money, The Winner Takes It All, Voulez-Vous, and, of course, Mamma Mia. The musical is one of the most successful theatre productions of all time, becoming the ninth longest-running show in Broadway history in 2015, and still running on London’s West End after thousands of performances.

Meet the cast & crew
This latest production is brought to life by a full South African cast, crew, and band, led by the iconic and award-winning performer Amra-Faye Wright. She is the longest-running actress in the role of Velma Kelly in Broadway’s Chicago: The Musical, and now plays the role of Donna, Sophie’s mother, who was famously portrayed by Meryl Streep in the film adaptation. Other cast highlights include Samantha Peo (The Addams Family, A Little Night Music) as Tanya, Lindy Abromowitz Sachs (Grease) as Rosie, and rising star Leah Mari, who played the beloved Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman earlier this year, as the main character Sophie.
Produced by Showtime Management, the musical is also run by many important women in South African theatre. Hazel Feldman is the main producer of this national run, with costume designer Birrie Le Roux and hair-and-wig designer Frances Moerdyk directed by the very experienced Janice Honeyman (The Boys In The Photograph, Little Shop Of Horrors, and 2024’s Mamma Mia!).
