Cape Ballet Africa is bringing the world’s most loved ballet, Swan Lake, to Cape Town audiences for an exclusive run of performances after its Johannesburg tour. Kicking off the company’s 2027 season, it’s a great opportunity for the Mother City’s ballet fans to experience an acclaimed, majestic dance production at the start of the year.
Here’s everything viewers need to know.

More about Swan Lake by Cape Ballet Africa
The limited show runs for just two weeks in early February 2027, with select performances set to a live orchestra soundtrack.
The pinnacle of classical ballet, Swan Lake tells a timeless tale of love and sacrifice, with elegant dancing sequences supported by Tchaikovsky’s absolutely iconic, sweeping score. In this perennial favourite, Prince Siegfried falls for Odette, a princess cursed to live as a swan by day. Their fates entwine in a powerful struggle against evil, where love must prove stronger than the sorcery that seeks to tear them apart.
Cape Ballet Africa’s rendition earned critical acclaim during its run in Johannesburg, with rave reviews from Diane de Beer (De Beer Necessities), Dale Kopping (DK Expressions), and Sam Nupen (Sam Says), and over 30,000 viewers across the season.

Meet the team
Swan Lake is staged by Georgian-born, London-based Elena Glurjidze, formerly the Lead Principal Ballerina of the English National Ballet, where she performed the integral role of Odette/Odile for over a decade. Her repertoire also included principal roles in Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Romeo & Juliet, and Cinderella, and she now owns and directs the celebrated Masters of Ballet Academy in London.
The impressive sets are designed by Michael Mitchell and the dazzling costumes are done by award-winning Marcel Meyer, the duo who designed CBA’s double Naledi Award-nominated production of The Nutcracker.
The dancers are just as world-class, with many CBA favourites in the principal roles. Gabriel Ravenscroft, Joshua Williams and Gabriel Fernandes Da Silva perform as Prince Siegfried, with Leanè Theunissen, Paige McElligott, Maryana Pobuta and Savannah Ireland as Odette/Odile.
