Belinda Davids Continues World-Famous Whitney Houston Tribute in The Bodyguard: The Musical

One of South Africa’s most respected singers, Belinda Davids, is once again following in the footsteps of her idol, Whitney Houston, as the leading lady in The Bodyguard: The Musical, coming to Cape Town audiences in 2027.

Here’s everything musical theatre and Whitney Houston fans need to know.

More about Belinda Davids & The Bodyguard

Davids has been performing since the 1990s, but is perhaps best known for her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, where she stunned judges (including Simon Cowell) with her powerful rendition of Houston’s One Moment in Time. She has toured the world, particularly as part of The Greatest Love Of All live show, paying tribute to the beloved singer’s catalogue and legacy with her own stadium-filling vocals.

Now, she takes to the stage for her theatrical debut, continuing Houston’s role from the hit film The Bodyguard in a new South African production. In it, she will play superstar vocalist Rachel Marron, whose difficulties with a stalker encourage her to seek protection from a bodyguard, played in the film by Kevin Costner. Belinda Davids will make full use of her impressive four-octave range to bring the film’s iconic soundtrack, which includes some of Houston’s most famous tracks, to life.

With theatre acting and dancing added to her repertoire for this upcoming project, it’s a special opportunity for fans of the local singer to experience Whitney Houston’s legacy in a new medium, alongside an all-South African cast, crew, and band.

Showtime Management is bringing the new show to audiences across the country, having already transformed Hollywood hits into successful South African stage productions with Pretty Woman and Mamma Mia in 2026. The musical will bring romance, thrilling drama, and chart-toppers like I Will Always Love You to the stage.
