An Observatory institution for years, Ganesh was taken over by the team behind Bodega Ramen on Wale Street in the city centre – Ryan, Bryn and Jade – who are Obs locals themselves. The takeover brought a gourmet upgrade to the beloved space while preserving its laidback vibe as a meeting place for friends, locals, artists, students and activists.
The building received a facelift and the restaurant at the back transformed into a Thai street food kitchen, inspired by the owners’ travels through Thailand together. The menu now features elevated dishes like chickpea and corn fritters, pork belly skewers and beef rib with rice and fried egg, alongside the famous crayfish samoosas that have always drawn crowds. The bar area remains synonymous with late-night conversations and sharing of quarts, while Thursday evenings at 7pm feature vinyl selectors and jazz, and Sundays from 4pm focus on ambient and experimental music with two Thai curries served.
