Kids Learn & Play at State-Of-The-Art Wonderdal Edutainment Centre

While the adults enjoy fine dining and acclaimed wine at Hazendal Wine Estate, the kids get to explore a unique, fully supervised edutainment centre filled with colourful characters.

Giving the opportunity to truly learn while playing, Wonderdal is the Stellenbosch estate’s activity area that goes beyond simple entertainment, specially designed for children who are curious about science and nature. Here’s everything both kids and parents need to know.

What to do at Wonderdal

Wonderdal is the first of its kind in South Africa, giving participants aged 5 to 13 the ability to explore important STEM principles while still enjoying a day out.

The space is carefully curated by educational consultants, developers, and learning space designers to create an environment that keeps them engaged while stimulating creativity and promoting knowledge across a variety of topics and themes. There are seven zones, each with its own activity and little world to explore.

There is a series of brain teaser games that teach problem-solving skills, a story cave filled with books and cosy nooks where children can read and listen to podcasts, a healthy kitchen for learning how to cook nutritious meals, a gardening experience with information on seeds and plant growth, a tinker workshop for playing with child-safe electrical circuits, and several sprawling climb and clamber areas dotted around the space.

Wonderdal is available for party bookings, making any child’s special day even more entertaining with a variety of activities, games and puzzles. Hazendal’s friendly staff are always on hand to assist, ensure comfort and safety for all, and take care of catering and clean-up. Meet the Amuki

Amuki are Wonderdal Edutainment Centre’s colourful little inhabitants. With leafy ears, big eyes, and each with their own distinct colour and personality, they are happy-go-lucky companions and helpful guides for any child entering Wonderdal for the very first time.

Timpa, the brains behind the operation, is the green Guardian of Care, always experimenting with something new at the Tinker Workshop. Gomma is the yellow Amuki, in charge of growing all the Amuki’s food in the garden – a bit shy and a little clumsy, but always looking to make new friends. Shekku is the Guardian of Water, a mysterious creature who loves swimming in the pools near the Health Kitchen and playing the Kalimba. Vuvu is always near the Story Cave, keeping Wonderdal’s air clean and often seen floating through the air before disappearing. Finally, cuddly Zylo is the Guardian of the Sun, most interested in teaching adventurers about energy at the glowing roots of the Kora tree.

The Amuki are always spread around Wonderdal’s vibrant open space, playing games, relaxing, or teaching children about the world. Each young adventurer’s magical bracelet helps them see and communicate with the Amuki, who are always ready to assist and show them something new about Wonderdal and the world around them.
