Vincent – His Quest To Love And Be Loved, a three-time Naledi Award-winning musical theatre production, returns to play in front of many Western Cape communities this July, following its sold-out 2025 debut in London’s West End.
Produced by the national touring company Wela Kapela, the show features acclaimed young actor Daniel Anderson as Van Gogh, with music by Cape Town Opera’s rehearsal pianist, Paul Ferreira.

Through reimagined renditions of classic pop, rock, jazz, and musical theatre hits, the production follows Van Gogh’s turbulent story, with Anderson bringing the iconic artist’s ever-relatable struggles, successes, and unending passion to life. Styled as a “multimedia musical cabaret”, the performance delves into Van Gogh’s lifelong need to create, love, and be loved on an emotional journey that connects modern audiences with the complex man.
The show is written and directed by Wela Kapela’s founder, Amanda Bothma. She has been a prolific theatre maker in South Africa over recent years, directing productions of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Once On This Island, and NEXT!!!, among many others. Vincent – His Quest To Love And Be Loved won the Bronze Standard Bank Ovation Award from the National Arts Festival and played to 5-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023, with Anderson being nominated as a Fleur du Cap finalist for his performance.
