Foodies, wine lovers and art enthusiasts should book immediately for one of Spier’s Winemaker Dinners. These intimate pop-up dining events are being hosted at the famous wine estate in Stellenbosch, offering the opportunity to discover the heritage of Spier winemaking (going back 331 years) with in-person insights from the winemakers. Unlike a typical à la carte menu, these food and wine pairing dinner asks you to cede all control; instead placing yourself in the hands of highly accomplished chefs.
The series promises an unforgettable journey through Spier’s award-winning wine collection, paired with four courses. Guests will have the unique opportunity to hear directly from Spier Cellar Master Johan Jordaan and featured guest winemakers, including Spier Managing Director (and award-winning winemaker) Frans K. Smit, as well as from acclaimed regenerative farmer Angus McIntosh.
Cap Classique Celebration
Uncork the secrets of Cap Classique! Explore a sparkling trio – Brut Rosé, Brut, and the newly released Prestige Cuvée Cap Classique 2016 – alongside a French counterpart. Learn to differentiate between these sparkling wines and play with unique glassware and bottle sizes. Magnums, highly regarded as the ultimate symbol of celebration, are particularly valued by winemakers for their ability to create optimal ageing conditions and encourage a slower, more harmonious maturation process for the wine. Join Cellar Master Johan Jordaan as he shares a range of older vintages from some of our top ranges, including Creative Block and 21 Gables. Roll up your sleeves and prepare to dig deep into the world of regenerative agriculture with Farmer Angus McIntosh. As a long-time champion of healthy soils, Angus will guide guests through his collaborative journey with Spier. Enjoy a farm-to-table feast showcasing Angus’ produce (such as beef carpaccio), a thoughtfully crafted selection celebrating the whole animal, and fresh vegetables from the Spier Food Garden. All dishes will be masterfully paired with a brand-new wine range, launching in July 2024.
