More about Heritage Day at the Norval Foundation

One of the day’s main attractions is the Khayelitsha-based group of performers and vocalists, Usapho Creatives, who bring traditional, interactive entertainment to many festivals and events throughout the Western Cape. On the day, they deliver a traditional African choir experience, along with dynamic dance shows and a live marimba performance.

Guests can spend the afternoon in the lush, scenic Tokai gardens of Norval Foundation, with many authentic South African flavours served by food trucks and the option to enjoy a curated picnic arranged by Norval’s on-site cafe, Atelier, making for a lovely day outdoors in the spring weather. A cash bar with wine and other refreshments runs throughout the day.

Finally, learn more about the stories behind the artworks and their creators with complimentary guided tours, offered in a range of languages, primarily English and isiXhosa, to celebrate South Africa’s diverse cultures. The Heritage Day celebrations come soon after the opening of Unsteady Realms, he first solo exhibition by renowned Cape Town artist Kate Gottgens, featuring her signature use of bright colours, abstract ideas, and ambiguous forms.

Best of all, admission to Norval is 50% off for the day, making it an affordable outing for all involved.
