V&A Waterfront is bringing their very first Makers Landing Seafood Fest for one weekend only, from 1 to 2 April. This exciting food festival takes place right on the harbour and celebrates all things seafood, from sea to plate. In the lineup is a fresh fish market, demo classes, informative discussions, a variety of vibrant food vendors, and live local music throughout the day. Here are some reasons the Makers Landing Seafood Fest is not to be missed! Entry is FREE for most of the events while booking is required for certain experiences.
LEARN ALL ABOUT SEAFOOD AND SUSTAINABILITY
The V&A Waterfront’s SOLVE, in partnership with Mikateko Media and the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation, hosts a series of panel discussions and demonstrations, delving deeper into how we as foodies, chefs, cooks, and everyday consumers can shift our behaviours to drive for a better, more sustainable future for our oceans and communities.
The Seafood Fest aims to be a platform to stimulate a deeper conversation around the provenance of what we put on our plates, the communities, and livelihoods the seafood sector supports, and the impact our fishing and consumption habits have on our oceans.
Join a workshop with representatives involved in the seafood sector from Abalobi, the Marine Stewardship Council and the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Environment, and more who discuss “Simplifying seafood at the V&A Waterfront” on Friday, 31 March from 9:30am to 11am.
A separate deep dive discussion looks on Saturday, 1 April looks into the lives of small-scale fisherwomen and decode fishing complexities.

MUST-DO DEMOS WITH TOP CHEFS AND FOOD EXPERTS
On Saturday, popular Chef Reuben Riffel hosts two informative demo sessions. The Sustainable Fish Masterclass is in partnership with I&J, and a fish and dip demo on the Makers Landing stage at 11am and 3pm.
Both expert and beginner cooks shouldn’t miss the insightful session by master filleters on how to filet Cape Hake the right way. These demos take place twice on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
On Sunday, watch stage legend Terry Fortune make his famous pickled fish from scratch and learn how to clean and fillet snoek like a pro with fisherwoman Michelle Singh. You can RSVP for the Demo Classes via Quicket to save your spot or walk-in.
Dive deep into the lives of small-scale fisherwomen and decode fishing complexities with a panel discussion running on the same day.
