Following months of rehearsals and competition, the city’s most anticipated cultural celebration, the Hollywoodbets KKKA Annual Kaapse Klopse and Cape Town Street Parade, is ready to flood the streets of Cape Town with colour, dance, music and the Klopse gees!
The Cape Town Street Parade
On Saturday, 4 January, the Cape Town Street Parade will see over 20,000 performers from 18 minstrel troupes parade through the city, starting in District Six and marching along the Hollywoodbets Purple Mile to Bo-Kaap. Expect dazzling costumes, energetic ghoema music, and a jubilant atmosphere as 80,000 to 100,000 spectators gather to celebrate this time-honoured tradition.
Hosted by comedian Ashley Pienaar, the parade will feature performances by a stellar lineup of live performances by local talent from the Klopse fraternity.
KKKA Annual Kaapse Klopse Competitions
The highly competitive Hollywoodbets KKKA Annual Kaapse Klopse Competitions kick off at Athlone Stadium on New Year’s Day.
The season goes on into February, with the Kaapse Klopse Competitions, beginning 1 January 2025 and taking place every Saturday until 1 February 2025. Held at Athlone Stadium, troupes will compete in categories such as Senior Drum Major, Juvenile Drum Major, Best Dressed Troupe, Klopse Jol and Grand March Pass – delivering thrilling performances each week.
Both events promise to showcase the best of Cape Town’s vibrant heritage, music, and traditions.
The Cape Town Street Parade is free to the public with limited Grandstand seating (700 seats) for the Purple Mile available via Computicket.
