Jack White Announces Cape Town Show in First-Ever African Tour

Rock icon and frontman of The White Stripes, Jack White, is coming to Africa this December to perform for one night only in the Mother City.

Starting his career in the early 1990s, Jack White has become one of the most famous modern-day rock stars, being a key figure in the garage band revival of the 2000s and even being inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 2025. Now, he brings his talent and blockbuster live show energy to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens for a scenic outdoor show to round out the year and kick-start the festive season celebrations.

After starting out as a drummer for the local band Goober & The Peas, Jack began playing guitar alongside Meg White, eventually forming The White Stripes. Their first two albums, The White Stripes and De Stijl, received critical acclaim upon release, but it was not until the album White Blood Cells that the band started taking over the rock world.

Their follow-up, Elephant, became one of the year’s best-selling albums, with Seven Nation Army earning them their first Grammy Award win. The song has remained a staple of pop culture and is still sung at sporting events and protests worldwide, with over two billion streams on Spotify.

The two continued to collaborate on several albums, incorporating more experimental sounds along the way while still charting globally. After the couple’s split in 2011, Jack White continued to grow as a solo artist, and his 2014 album Lazaretto became one of his most celebrated works. He has featured on Rolling Stone’s list of the Greatest Guitarists of All Time and won 12 Grammy Awards.

The Cape Town show comes a few months after his most recent release, Frozen Charlotte, a critically acclaimed album that continues White’s legacy as a garage rock legend. Showgoers can expect superstar performances of White’s lesser-known solo work alongside the genre-defining hits that consistently see him listed as one of the best live performers in rock ‘n roll.
