The show features a star-studded line-up of international guest artists and local luminaries of the stage, accompanied by the full Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Brandon Phillips (CPO Resident Conductor), and hosted by the incomparable South African icon, Marc Lottering.
More about Finding the Light – An Evening with Musical Theatre Stars
Finding the Light – An Evening with Musical Theatre Stars will be a wonderful musical theatre feast,’ says Daniel Galloway, who is producing the event alongside Jessica Ross. ‘Sport, music and live performance bring us together in ways which no other mediums can. For one week only, we present some of the world’s best performers right here on the Artscape Opera House stage, in a celebration of talent and our much-loved musicals!’
‘We are honoured to present, for the first time in South Africa, this powerhouse group of international performers, who join us in celebrating our common humanity through the magical force of music and live performance,’ explains Jessica Ross, Executive Producer of the show and co-founder of Finding The Light Foundation.
‘Proud to be associated with the Kolisi Foundation in this fundraising drive, we unite in giving South African audiences an evening of world-class entertainment, while providing an opportunity for them to invest in making a tangible difference in local communities.’
Who stars in this musical production?
For the first time, South African audiences will have the chance to see performances by some of Broadway and West End’s best talent who have mastered their craft across stage, screen and recording studios. Kim Criswell received an Olivier Award nomination for Annie Get Your Gun, portrayed the role of Lucy opposite Sting in 3 Penny Opera among others.
Criswell is joined by two-time Olivier Award-nominated actor and singer Michael D. Xavier known for his role in ITV’s Grantchester, David Habbin (West Side Story, Les Misérables, Amici Forever) and who is also the co-founder of the Finding the Light Foundation, and Broadway Star Nikki Renée Daniels.
South Africa’s beloved music stars who are no strangers to international stages also feature on the bill. Jonathan Roxmouth needs no introduction and is regarded as one of the country’s leading musical stars thanks to roles in Phantom of the Opera, and West Side Story. The rest of the cast includes Lynelle Kenned from the recent The Sound of Music national tour, Tshepo Ncokoane who wowed Johannesburg theatregoers in December last year with Janice Honeyman’s Peter Pan Pantomime, and Lucy Tops who is known for her roles in Kinky Boots, Funny Girl, and as part of The Romantix.
An evening of song for a good cause
Finding the Light – An Evening with Musical Theatre Stars is the culmination of an international fundraising drive with The Kolisi Foundation. The Kolisi Foundation was set up by Siya and Rachel Kolisi in 2019 to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing South African communities.
Finding the Light Foundation helps unite and mobilise South Africans and Africans in the UK and in South Africa in support of those addressing frontline challenges in South Africa.
The two organisations, in their own right, were both founded with the common desire of making an enduring difference in South Africa.
