British musical legend Engelbert Humperdinck, famous for romantic hits such as ‘Release Me’, ‘Quando, Quando’, ‘A Man Without Love,’ and ‘The Last Waltz,’ has announced his final tour, which includes a performance in Cape Town on Sunday, 14 July 2024 at Grand Arena, GrandWest. Audiences can expect a charming evening of timeless classics and heartfelt performances as he sings his way through six decades of musical legacy.
Engelbert Humperdinck: The man, the music legend
Engelbert Humperdinck is famous for his velvety smooth voice and captivating stage presence. His beautiful songs continue to resonate with audiences around the globe decades after they were released; he’s arguably one of the most beloved entertainers of all time. It’s not just the voice, but the man who wins audiences over – with his endearing sense of humour and self-deprecating jokes. Engelbert has even struck a chord with a younger generation, appearing on MTV several times.
Humperdinck exploded onto the music scene along with The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley. The young, shy but handsome man catapulted to fame almost instantly. He became great friends with Elvis and the two legends often performed one another’s songs. His first single in the charts was ‘Release Me’. It reached number 1 in 11 countries, and earned him a Guinness World Record for the time it spent at the top of the charts: an astonishing 56 consecutive weeks. The following decades saw Engelbert Humperdinck touring the world to sell-out crowds.
The star has sold over 140 million records, including 64 albums which have gone gold and 35 which have gone platinum. He has recorded everything from romantic ballads to movie theme songs, as well as disco, rock, and gospel tunes. The popular crooner has received numerous awards, including four Grammy nominations and a Golden Globe. He has stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Las Vegas Walk of Fame, and the Leicester Walk of Fame. He has performed for the Queen four times, as well as for several presidents and heads of state.
The Cape Town leg of his ‘Last Waltz’ tour (which follows a performance in Pretoria) takes place on Sunday, 14 July 2024, at 4pm at GrandWest Casino’s Grand Arena, a venue known for hosting numerous international stars and providing great food, amenities, and state-of-the-art sound.
