Winelands Light Railway
The Winelands Light Railway offers both children and adults a memorable train experience, in the form of a trip on either an electric or steam railway. Lasting 7 minutes and covering around 700m, the train journey is designed to be enjoyed by the whole family.

Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden, in the historical center of Stellenbosch, is the oldest university botanical garden in South Africa. Polkadraai Farm
Polkadraai Farm is a working strawberry farm that opens its fields to the public for pick-your-own harvesting each season, typically from September through to January. The farm has been producing strawberries for several decades and holds GlobalGAP certification, an internationally recognised food safety and good agricultural practice standard audited annually by an independent third party.
Beyond the strawberry fields, the farm accommodates a bike park, tractor rides, pony rides, pedal karts, mini golf, a playground, a food court and a food and wine shop stocking jams, preserves, dried fruit, estate wines and farm produce. The farm stall also carries a selection of local wines.

Zorgvliet Wine Estate
Dating to 1692, this 220-hectare wine estate occupies the Banghoek Valley on the Helshoogte Road between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. The property was originally established by Casper Wilders and changed hands several times over three centuries before entrepreneur Mac van der Merwe acquired it at auction in 2002. The original Manor House, which was rebuilt after a fire in 1860, was restored to its thatched Cape Dutch form and now houses the estate’s wine tasting room. South African artist Robert Koch documented the Manor House and surrounding valley in a series of commissioned paintings.
The wine tasting room is complemented by multiple dining options, among them the De Herenhuis restaurant, the Banghoek Lounge, the De Vliet Country Bistro and the Grapes and Greens outdoor picnic area, which is set under oak trees alongside a children’s play area.

Quoin Rock Wine Estate
Winemaker and viticulturist Schalk Opperman, who studied oenology at Stellenbosch University and trained in California and Bordeaux, has led the cellar since 2005. The Wine Lounge accommodates guided tastings of five wines presented by a wine ambassador, with indoor and outdoor terrace seating and views across the valley.
The estate’s restaurant, QUARTZ, opened in 2025 as a relaxed fine-dining venue serving seasonally driven, South African-rooted menus by executive chef Edmund Viljoen. The Knorhoek Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 was awarded Best in Show at the Decanter World Wine Awards, scoring 97 points. Outdoor picnics are available on the estate grounds. A smart-elegant dress code applies at QUARTZ.

Basic Bistro
Open since 2004, this owner-run bistro occupies a small, intimate space on Church Street in the centre of Stellenbosch, with seating available both indoors and on a street-side terrace. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.
The menu centres on gourmet burgers, pasta dishes, Malay curry, and matured steak, alongside a curated wine list ranging from everyday drinking wines to more considered selections. Espresso-based coffee is a focus, with the kitchen also offering milkshakes, wine cocktails and a selection of teas sourced from Nigiro.

Drostdy Theatre
Opened on 2 March 2015, the Drostdy Theatre is a self-funded independent theatre established by Ingrid Howard and Hano Smit in a Victorian-era building on the corner of Alexander and Bird Streets in central Stellenbosch. Howard has an extensive background in television, production and directing; Smit serves as Technical Director.
The building previously functioned as a hotel, a home for the aged and office space before being converted into a performance venue in six weeks. The auditorium seats approximately 250 people and is designed for an intimate relationship between performers and audience. The programme spans musicals, dramas, dance shows, comedy, jazz and live music, in both Afrikaans and English, and has hosted performers including David Kramer, Amanda Strydom and Bongeziwe Mabandla.

Stellenbosch Golf Club
Founded in 1904, Stellenbosch Golf Club is the fourth-oldest golf club in South Africa and celebrated its centenary in 2004. In 2026, Stellenbosch Golf Club was selected as the venue for the 115th Investec South African Open, recognising it as one of the country’s premier championship venues. The clubhouse includes a restaurant and raised balcony with views across the course, a driving range, and facilities for corporate events. The club has received Golf Digest South Africa recognition for the Best 19th Hole Experience in South Africa for 2026.
