What’s a better weekend getaway than relaxing in the windless retreat of Bantry Bay and tasting a professionally curated Afternoon Tea at the President Hotel? With a special menu designed by Executive Chef Chanté Rabie and her team, celebrating local flavours and tea staples, guests can indulge in decadent dishes while enjoying views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean.

Held every Saturday, the experience starts with guests choosing two teas. The lineup includes a plain, single-estate organic rooibos (The Connoisseur), an anti-inflammatory Buchu, a caffeinated, aromatic Earl Grey, a smooth Jasmine, and a sweet, citrusy Sticky Naartjie rooibos with a hint of honeycomb.

The food menu keeps this delicate balance between local favourites and classic afternoon tea fare. On the savoury side, diners can try Saldanha pickled snoek tartlets (with West Coast wildflower honey aioli), Karoo lamb croquettes, creamed thyme brie, and rooibos-, honey-, and lemon-glazed kingklip.

All three of the scone options (citrus zest, curled buttermilk, and savoury wild rosemary) are served with clotted cream and naartjie curd. Of course, no tier is complete without finger sandwiches, with Afternoon Tea at the President having both Kalahari flamed ostrich and citrus honey & fynbos chicken on toasty, grilled brioche bread.

For the sweet conclusion, the menu caters for a diverse palate. It includes rooibos and lemon cheesecake petit gâteau; a dark forest berry financier; a honey fynbos, naartjie and yoghurt tart (with toasted white chocolate crémeux); hazelnut and African beechwood choux; and a honey & orange blossom macaron.
