Comedy Performances at Woordfees 2025
Pharanoid [English]
Ntobeko Ximba debuts this one-man show about what it means to be South African and the oddities that come with that. Known for his sharp wit and fresh perspective, Ntobeko, who comes from an advertising background, uses comedy to make South Africans take a new look at everyday issues that make one realise just how bizarrely funny life can really be.

Rescue Remedy [Afrikaans & English]
Rescue Remedy, a comedy drama presented in a mix of Afrikaans and English, tracks the relationship between a father and son. Roland du Preez, the writer of the show, takes you on a journey as he tries to meet his father half way – literally next to the N2 – in understanding his queer son. Misunderstandings and difficulties abound but they are always balanced on a foundation of love and laughter.

Joe Barber 25 [Afrikaans & English]
Joe Barber 25 puts Oscar Petersen and David Isaacs right back in their iconic barbershop with all its fun and foibles. Boeta Gamat, Boeta Joe, Washiela and Outjie are still here 25 years later and will not fail to delight audiences with their new adventures and antics.

Stand-Up Comedy Shows at Woordfees 2025
Marc Lottering: Marc Eugene Lottering [English & Afrikaans]
Marc Eugene Lottering, in a show of the same name, brings his glorious sense of humour and observation to a show that tells the story of his journey from child to celebrated comic, as well as where he thinks his very colourful family tree stems from. This show has been crowned with both a Naledi and Kanna Award and has played to sold out seasons in both Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Riaad Moosa: What’s the Point? [English]
Come and get your dose of laughter from Dr Riaad Moosa as he figures out the absurdities of life and how to deal with the chaotic state of the world. Known for his charming stage presence and sharp perspectives, the “Comic Doctor” has a cure for what ails you. Come and share in the fun and games with this beloved South African comic.

Nik Rabinowitz: Geriatric Millennial [English]
Nik Rabinowitz: Geriatric Millennial takes a hard, funny look at middle age. The digital confusion, the memory loss, the creaking limbs, the font that has gotten too small, the food that suddenly fights with you – it’s all there in this witty and sharply observed show. Nik has played to audiences all over South Africa and the world and never fails to elicit gales of laughter.

Alan Committie: Comedy Gold [English]
Enter the bonkers world of Alan Committie in Comedy Gold. Renowned for the fast pace of his shows, his rambling stream of consciousness and his interaction with his audiences, Alan is the gold standard for comedy in South Africa. You may not be able to predict what he will say, or how many flipcharts he will need or which of his latest dance moves he might bust out – but you can definitely be sure of a crazy good time in his company.

Pieter-Dirk Uys: Evita @ 90 [English & Afrikaans]
The doyenne of South African comedy, Evita Bezuidenhout, will be gracing the festival with her presence. In Evita @ 90 Pieter-Dirk Uys brings the most famous woman in South Africa to the stage where she talks about politics, society, TikTok, her grandchildren and so much more. She doesn’t need a crystal ball to see what is happening to South Africa. As Evita so often says: the future of our country is certain; it’s just the past that’s unpredictable.
