WGRUV Dance Company is thrilled to announce Trilogy of Notes – A Symphony of Dance, a new body of work for their 3rd season running from 17 to 19 October 2024. This dance production will open at three key theatres across Gauteng this November and December.
South Africa’s newest contemporary ballet dance company is set to enchant audiences with this triple bill, promising a night filled with class, culture, and breathtaking musical landscapes.
A trilogy of contemporary and emotive dance works
Trilogy of Notes is a triple bill of captivating works. The programme opens with Vivace Motifs, choreographed by Jessica Lang, whose visually stunning and emotionally resonant piece sets a refined tone.
Permission to Fall is an original creation by Brad Beakes and explores a reflective contemporary narrative enriched by Ryan Lott and YMusic’s evocative score.
The final work titled The Weight of a Moment, is choreographed by Michael Trusnovec. Influenced by music set in the 1950s, June Christy serenades us with her smooth tones and the dancers of WG.UV match her inflexions with the American-influenced, Jazz and contemporary lines.
As the seven movements depict relationships lost, found or hoping to belong to, live instrumentalist Emmanuel Paul plays the base notes.
The artistic vision behind Trilogy of Notes
Artistic Director at WGRUV Dance Company, Holly Gruver, describes Trilogy of Notes as “a labour of love, meticulously crafted to resonate with each audience member.” She adds that the production is “not only a canvas of movement arcs that delight the eyes but a collaboration of sorts between artists of different genres. We have the performing artists showcasing the classics of contemporary and Jazz styles along with Neoclassical. The musical artists forming our live instrument section add an aroma of South African talent as Darlington Okofu and E. Paul dance on the keys and strings of the Upright Bass. We always aim to create works for audience to not only see but feel -something that touches the heart and stays with you long after the final applause. Our goal is for every individual to find a piece of themselves in this symphony of dance.” says Holly.
Dancer Ruan Galdino joins the WGRUV Dance Company
WGRUV Dance Company will introduce its newest member, Ruan Galdino, whose talent will shine alongside the rest of the company’s seasoned performers. Galdino is one of the leading talents in South African ballet right now.
This season also marks a special collaboration with Joburg Ballet, bringing soloist Marlon Sales to the Cape Town stage.
