The Two Oceans Marathon, sponsored by Totalsport, is often voted one of the most breathtaking courses in the world due to the natural splendour of the course. Highlights include Chapman’s Peak, Muizenberg, St James, Kalk Bay, Constantia and Newlands. By contributing R672 million to the local GDP annually, it is Africa’s largest running race.
This year’s event features an ultra marathon and a half marathon race, and and exciting expo that promises to be exciting for runners and spectators alike. Here’s everything you need to know about the event.

About the Races
The Two Oceans Marathon weekend consists of the 56km ultra marathon event (5 April) and the 21.1km half marathon event (6 April).
Known as the Western Cape’s most prestigious race, with only 14 000 entries permitted, the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon takes athletes on a spectacular course around the Cape Peninsula. This running of the Ultra Marathon will mark the 54th edition of the event.
The event begins at the Newlands Swimming Pool at 5.15am, and takes runners through Claremont and Plumstead before a stretch alongside the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. After pushing through Noordhoek and Chapman’s Peak, runners take the Hout Bay route to Constantia, eventually finishing at the UCT Rugby Field.
Cash prizes are given to the top 10 men and women in the open, as well as the top 5 in each age category over 40.
Meanwhile, the Two Oceans Half Marathon often attracts a sold-out crowd, and this year marks the 26th holding of the event. The race is perfect for those who are on their running journey but not quite ready for the grueling 56km ultra marathon.
The event begins at the Newlands Swimming Pool at 6.20am, and takes runners through Claremont, Kenilworth and Wynberg, before circling through Constantia and Rhodes Drive. The race ends at the UCT Rugby Field.
Cash prizes are given to the top 10 men and women in the open, as well as the top 5 in each age category over 40.
