Warm Up this Winter With Spier Wine Farm’s New Garden-To-Glass Organic Tasting Session

After the launch of their Good Natured range late last year, Spier just added a new vegetarian-friendly wine tasting experience to their Tasting Room. The popular Stellenbosch wine destination is one of the leading wineries that are actively pushing for a shift towards regenerative farming methods and naturally made wines.

The Organic Harvest: a Garden-to-Glass Tasting combines the best of Spier’s organic wines matched with a sweet and savoury selection of vegetarian bites made using fresh ingredients straight from the farm’s food garden.

Spier’s Organic Winemaker, Tania Kleintjes, explains, ‘The big difference with organic wine is in the vineyard – not the taste.’ Currently, all vines on Spier’s own farm are organic.

Certified organic wine is commonly made with grapes grown without the use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides, or other artificial chemicals. This way of farming shapes the vineyard as a living ecosystem and allows for grapes full of natural flavour and complexity.

This unique wine tasting in Stellenbosch is paired with canape-style nibbles where fresh produce from the farm garden takes centre stage. To those not in the know, the Spier Food Garden is an old horse paddock revamped into a space to grow delicious and nutrient-dense produce with eco-friendly techniques.

Warm up with four delicious organic wines, including Good Natured Sauvignon Blanc, Farm House Rosé, The Yellowwood Red and First Stone Red.

The tasting starts with a glass of Good Natured Sauvignon Blanc and is paired with a Spier garden roast vegetable tartlet, confit tomato, and goat’s cheese.

Next up, visitors are treated to Farm House Rosé made with silky Shiraz grapes and hints of strawberry, vanilla and pepper for a fresh finish. This wine is paired with cream of tomato soup and a parmesan tuille.

The Yellowwood Red is matched with shitake veloute and mushroom ragout, and ending with the grand finale is the award-winning First Stone Red paired with a 55% dark chocolate brownie truffle.

‘Making organic wines is in keeping with Spier’s ethically, environmentally and socially conscious farming philosophy in which we harness the goodness of nature in ways that are kind to the earth,’ says Cellar Master Johan Jordaan.
