SA Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) is making the most of balmy summer nights with another edition of their popular open-air movie night at Kirstenbosch Gardens. This family-friendly event in Cape Town runs on Monday, 18 December and also includes an evening filled with live entertainment by the Ambience Band, lawn games for the children and a pop-in by Santa Claus.
Fun things to do for the entire family
The majestic Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens is the ideal setting for this open-air movie night where the Rise of the Guardians (2012) will be screened. This Dreamworks animated movie follows Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost, and the Sandman as they join forces to protect the world’s children from the evil Boogeyman.
The film features a stellar cast of actors such as Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher, Chris Pine, and Jude Law. Get there early to secure some good seats, and so you can chill out over a picnic before the films light up the big screen. Guests can order burgers, pizza and other easy snacks from the food stalls, or take their own picnic basket along.
On the cards is a live performance by the Ambience Band and exciting lawn games for the children. To get the festive spirit started, Santa Claus will be making an appearance for a meet and greet as well as photo opportunities.
Fundraising for a good cause
SA Bone Marrow Registry’s movie night event is one of the organisation’s main fundraising drives. For many patients battling blood-related cancers, the simple joys of life away from the confines of a hospital bed are merely a dream. It is, for this reason, that the organisation has set the stage for a night under the stars with an open-air movie night, dedicated to raising funds for its Patient Assistance Programme (PAP).
Since its launch in 2018, nearly 80 patients have benefitted from the Patient Assistance Programme which assists families who do not have the financial means to cover donor-related costs associated with transplants. For direct donations to the SA Bone Marrow Registry, please click here.
