Following rave reviews in the previous two years, Brett Bailey and Third World Bunfight return with a bigger and better edition of The Routes of Sound, taking place at Spier Wine Farm from July. This immersive experience invites visitors to wander through the scenic estate’s lush gardens while enjoying a series of live acoustic performances over three weekends. Here’s everything you need to know.

About the Routes of Sound
This winter special highlights talented local musicians from across the country, while guests try Spier’s award-winning Creative Block wines in some of the estate’s most distinctive, cosy spaces.
The first weekend (3 & 4 July) features many folk singer-songwriters, including Johannesburg-based vocalists Tubatsi and Chosi, Afrikaans singer-songwriter Magé Troskie, blues-rock musician Cheyenne Hill, Mickey Struwick (from Like the Mouse), and Freddy Lalendle (from Ntu2ko).
The second weekend (31 July & 1 August) features Tshivenda singer-songwriter Muneyi, who won the 2025 Standard Bank Young Artist award. Other highlights include Afrikaans poet-musician RFKI with CJ Bergh, up-and-coming indie artist Karla von Solms, and intimate ballads from music duo Akeeda.
The final weekend (21–22 August) showcases indigenous instrumentalist and singer Sky Dlala, talented singer and guitarist Maya Grey, silky isiXhosa vocalist Xhanti Nokwali, folk duo Dead Dungarees, and a big band featuring renowned musician Lungiswa Plaatjies, Reza Khota, and more.

These artists bring a level of atmospheric artistry to Spier’s Routes of Sound, with acclaimed songwriting that guides audiences on an evening of wandering, listening, and connecting. Guests are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy a meal at Veld Restaurant at the Spier Hotel before the performances begin. Warm clothing and comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as audiences move between venues throughout the evening.
