In a city where numerous culinary traditions run deep and many diverse cultures converge, leading city dining hotspot Nobu Cape Town has unveiled a new omakase menu that looks to highlight the distinct flavours of South Africa. The Omakase menu is a masterful exploration of local ingredients while retaining the recognisable Nobu-style – elegant, sensational and sensory.

About the new Omakase Menu
The South African Omakase was curated by Nobu Head Chef Nicky King and her team, and truly was a “team effort that went above any beyond” says Chef Nicky. This multi-course journey begins with a smoked snoek pâté, delicately paired with a crispy rice cracker. A yuzu and rooibos-cured seabass follows, its citrusy zest offset by a delicate orange amazu. The chalmar beef tataki salad arrives next, layered with a delectable grilled pear and honey ponzu bringing warmth and umami in equal measure.
A Nobu experience is not complete without the iconic melt-in-your mouth sushi; a curated selection of nigiri to provide the traditional touch of Japanese-Peruvian cuisine before returning to South African shores once more. Local whitefish and mussels in a vibrant mango anticucho sauce pay tribute to the Atlantic Ocean whilst springbok loin complete with butter tosazu and confit figs brings the multicultural experience that is South Africa back to the plate.
To finish off the adventure, a plum tart – crowned with sweet burnt buchu honey ice cream – provides a sweet, botanical finish that lingers like the Cape’s dusky skies. Paired with fine South African wines or Japanese spirits, it’s a journey of flavour that is unmistakably Nobu but rooted in the Cape.
