MARENE have been lighting up stages since 2018, with their tribute to classic rock trends and theatrical performances. Now, the band takes a new turn with ‘Finchie’, a heart-on-their-sleeve ode to yearning and young love, as a taste of their upcoming EP ‘Nevermine’. Here’s everything you need to know.

MARENE Unleash Heartfelt Sincerity with ‘Finchie’
South Africa’s Flash Rock powerhouse MARENE explode into their latest era with the release of their candid new single ‘Finchie’ and its accompanying cinematic music video, as the first taste of their new EP ‘Nevermine’. Staples of the Cape Town rock scene, MARENE came onto the scene in 2018, and have been entrancing audiences with their scene-stealing theatrics and thunderous guitar riffs.
‘Finchie’ is a homage to teenage unrequited love and loneliness, written by lead singer Tyler Duggan. Simultaneously vulnerable and powerful, the song evokes nostalgia and longing, with the groove-laden bass and comet-like lead guitar rounding out the slick style the band is known for.
‘Finchie’ and its accompanying music video released on 25 July 2025, the day before the band took the stage at WinterFest 2025. The band’s performance was high-energy and a sensory spectacle – something the members have become known for over their years of performing.
Hear ‘Finchie’ from 25 July 2025 here, and catch the music video on the same day.

The Band Embraces Their Versatility with New EP ‘Nevermine’
MARENE’s new EP, ‘Nevermine’, lands on 1 August 2025, and sees the band evolve and experiment across five shapeshifting tracks. ‘Nevermine’ moves to traverse moods and influences with thrilling versatility.
From the synth‑sparkle reinvention of Sabrina’s ‘Boys (Summertime Love)’ to The Church’s ‘Reptile’ reframed as a shadowy alt‑rock drama, ‘Nevermine’ experiments with differing moods and boundaries, all with their signature depth, bite and heart.
Listen out for ‘Nevermine’, releasing on 1 August on all music platforms here.
