Farm and Winery Walks at Joostenberg Wine Estate

The Joostenberg Farm and Winery Walks give visitors a look at how the estate is run using various organic and regenerative methods, and shows how the farmers focus on soil health in the vineyards to keep the ecosystem balanced. This philosophy carries over into the winery where the winemaking is kept simple and natural.

The route passes through several historic farm buildings from the 1700s that have been updated from their original uses into modern cellars and production spaces. The experience ends with a wine tasting, in which visitors can try the wines right there on the farm.

The Kraal Restaurant

The Kraal Restaurant is situated within a shaded, stone-walled courtyard at Joostenberg Wine Estate, where tables are set among fruit and olive trees alongside the garden and winery. During the winter, guests gather inside the historic “waenhuis” – a cozy farm building typically used for wine tastings – which offers a warm, intimate space.

Because the surrounding district has always been a mixed farming area, the restaurant benefits from access to a wide variety of fresh, local produce. Each week, the team creates a three-course set lunch menu inspired by farm traditions, international travels, and influential cooks, focusing on generous, slow hospitality and honest flavors.

This approach has earned the establishment significant acclaim, as The Kraal was named one of the Top 10 restaurants in the Dineplan Reviewers’ Choice Awards in both 2024 and 2025.

The three-course menu is available every weekend.
