Intimate 50-seater restaurant, ALICE, brings a whimsical story to life with a modern twist: Falace in Wonderland. Set within the popular, luxe Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel, the restaurant transforms into a theatre every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
This new tongue-in-cheek musical delves into the adventures of Alice’s journey through the perilous, let playful, adventures of today’s online dating. An adults-only spectacle of sing-alongs, burlesque and naughty humour, paired with an innovative dining experience, offers an evening audiences are unlikely to forget.
Meet the main characters in Falace in Wonderland
Written and narrated by Tessa Denton, Falace in Wonderland is a coming-of-age story centred around Alice’s online dating pursuits on the ‘wonderland’ dating site. The show is accompanied by favourite noughties hits, some seriously sexy dance numbers, and some unexpected twists and turns. Denton’s credentials include over 25 years in the performing arts industry, including numerous TV and theatre acting roles (Generations, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and others) and a slew of important crew and production roles.
Cape-Town-born singer Elaine Fourie stars as ‘Alice’, lending impressive vocal abilities and extensive experience to the Falace in Wonderland stage. She’s joined by Caelee Vercueil, who boasts a recording contract with Sony BMG Music Entertainment and a 7-year run at the Barnyard Theatre, and Fleur du Cap nominee Zolani Shanase, known for his roles in ‘The Lion King’, ‘The Colour Purple’, and many more.
Dining Down the Rabbit Hole: What’s on the menu
The Falace in Wonderland adventure extends to the palate in a wonderfully sensory journey. Executive Chef Wesley Peters brings a wealth of gastronomic experience and wine knowledge to The Grand Daddy‘s Alice Restaurant, presenting a playful yet refined interpretation of fine dining.
Guests can look forward to showstopping dishes like The Nebula (tuna, fennel, spring onion, elderflower, yuzu, ginger, and lime), The Reef (a mosaic of fish, oyster flambé, milk crisp, caviar, sea air, coconut, and basil split sauce) and Red Queen Dessert (a roulade of meringue, berry, coffee, coconut tonka sauce, and rum). A range of beautiful cocktails and excellent wines have been carefully selected to pair with the menu.
