What is Loyiso Gola Live comedy show about?

This live comedy show in Cape Town is a comedic journey through South Africa’s rollercoaster of events that took place in 2023. From the dramatic Thabo Bester escape saga to the ongoing disruption of load-shedding and the glorious triumph of the Springboks in the Rugby World Cup, Loyiso delves into it all with his signature sharp wit.

The comedian also turned 40 this year, which has provided him with a treasure trove of stories to share.

As a seasoned performer who performed at multiple international shows, Loyiso Gola still holds Cape Town closest to his comedic heart. ‘There is no place in the world that connects with me like this city,’ says Loyiso.

Who is Loyiso Gola?

Loyiso etched his name in history in 2021 with the groundbreaking Netflix standup Special, ‘Loyiso Gola: Unlearning,’ recorded at the iconic Zeitz Museum in Cape Town. This offering delivered riffs about race, identity, politics and a school prank that went embarrassingly wrong and connected with a global audience.

Born and raised in Cape Town, he is one of South Africa’s most gifted and popular comedians. Loyiso explored the comedy scene through a drama teacher who introduced him to the Cape Comedy Collective where he continued to flourish. He went on to win the Sprite Soul Comedy Tour and relocated to Johannesburg where he quickly raked in TV appearances and sketch shows.

In 2006 he debuted his first one-man show I’m Frank followed by a South African Comedy Award for Best Breakthrough Comedy Act with Loyiso Gola For President and toured regularly in South Africa and abroad. Loyiso also created and hosted the satirical TV series Late Nite News in 2010, which ran until 2015 and received two of the much acclaimed Emmy nominations.
