Who is Clyde Terry?

Born and raised on the South Coast, Clyde Terry is the brainchild behind Clyde on 4th in Johannesburg and one of the leading antique dealers in the country.

Clyde is credited with transforming the antiques and collectables market into a vibrant and sustainable industry, encouraging younger people to take an interest in collecting antiques. As presenter of two series of Antique Road Shows flighted on DSTV’s Home Channel, Clyde is an accomplished valuator and takes pride in helping collectors find what they are looking for to add to many fine collections worldwide.

He scours the country looking to buy antique pieces and believes that many people have forgotten pieces that might be worth selling.  Says Clyde, ‘In these ever-changing times collectors are looking for pieces to invest in and most importantly to be functional in their homes.’

The collector also hosts the biggest monthly antiques fair in the country which takes place on the first Sunday of every month at the prestigious Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton, Johannesburg where close to 40 antique dealers exhibit from all over the country.  A second monthly antiques fair takes place at the up-market Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria.

One of the most prestigious events on his calendar is the National Antiques & Decorative Arts Faire, which takes place annually at the Sandton Convention Centre, which, for the past 11 years has showcased the country’s best antiques, collectables and decorative arts.
