The Cape Orchid Society Spring Show is one of the society’s two flagship annual events that celebrate orchids in all their glory. Beyond the dazzling displays, the show is also an opportunity to learn more about the fascinating world of orchids and the society’s ongoing conservation work.
A variety of expert vendors will be on hand to tempt you with orchids and companion plants, provide trusted advice and supply everything you need to keep your new treasures thriving at home.

Explore the Cape Floral Kingdom orchid collection
Did you know that the Cape Floral Kingdom – one of the world’s richest biodiversity hotspots – is home to 241 recognised native orchid species? Considering the region’s relatively small size, this is a remarkable number. These orchids have developed unique adaptations to survive the Cape’s often harsh conditions, making them both resilient and extraordinary.
Sadly, many of them are now at risk. Of the region’s 1,700 threatened plant species, 70 are orchids, placing them among the most vulnerable.
The Cape Orchid Society is dedicated to protecting these botanical treasures. Their conservation projects focus on propagating rare and endangered orchid species and reintroducing them into habitats where they are under threat or have disappeared. By partnering with conservation agencies, research institutions, and citizen-science organisations, the Cape Orchid Society strives to secure a future where Cape orchids can continue to thrive in the wild.
