The 4th Annual Women’s Health Expo, which aims to empower women of all ages and backgrounds, is taking place in Cape Town (and Joburg) this August. In Cape Town, the event will be held on 3 and 4 August at The President Hotel. The Women’s Expo offers everything from expert talks to stalls and exhibitions, networking opportunities, fitness classes and more.

Micaela Kleinsmith and Mila Smith: After Dark Concert at Two Oceans Aquarium
The Two Oceans Aquarium’s After Dark concert series has returned, offering unforgettable evenings that combine the worlds of music and marine life. One edition features these two incredible women performers:
Micaela Kleinsmith is a former SA Idols contestant and the winner of ‘My Kind Of Country,’ an American country music competition television series featuring international competitors. In her three-track EP Butterfly (2023), she uses her voice as her main instrument to convey many emotions and uses a butterfly motif symbolising love and self-actualisation.
Mila is a 19-year-old singer/songwriter signed to Platoon (an artist services, A&R, and music distribution company owned by Apple Inc.). She presents a soulful heart-on-sleeve sound and soaring emotional vocals expressing maturity and storytelling ability beyond her years. Mila’s first single ‘Liars and Fakes,’ a disco-pop anthem, reached number 1 on the 5fm SA Top 10 charts for three weeks running.

Zimbini Makwetu at The Baxter Theatre
In honour of Women’s Month, Zimbini Makwetu graces the stage for an exclusive one-night-only concert of soul-stirring melodies and captivating rhythms.
Directed by the well-known Elvis Sibeko, the concert features Zimbini Makwetu’s debut live performance of ‘Kuk-kurukugu’, marking a new chapter in her artistic journey alongside beloved hits from her debut album, ‘Ndiyehlela’.
Spiritual Jazz musician Dumza Maswana and the internationally acclaimed South African Youth Choir join Makwetu on stage, and top South African dancers and surprise guest performers deliver a cinematic Afro-Pop spectacle.

Women’s Day Mile Swim
South Africa’s only Women’s Mile Swim continues for its fourth year in 2024. The swim starts and finishes at the Simon’s Town Waterfront, with swimmers completing a 1-mile/1609-kilometre looped course of Simon’s Bay against the backdrop of the Simon’s Town mountains and resident South African Navy ships.
Swimmers pass over the kelp forests of Simon’s Bay, where they might catch glimpses of the resident short-tailed Stingrays or small Puffadder shy-sharks that call this area home.
Swimmers must remember to wear a brightly coloured swim cap of either pink, yellow, green, red or orange. All Junior Swimmers receive a free Simon’s Bay Mile swim cap. There are also category prizes for the top three swimmers in Open Skins and Wetsuits and the top 3 Junior swimmers.

Baddie Burlesque Show at Armchair
Baddie Burlesque is an anything-goes, NSFW, no themes, no style restrictions, no rules badass bi-monthly Burlesque experience. This intimate monthly show is where burlesque boundaries are tested, envelopes pushed, and glass ceilings shattered.
Baddie plays host to performers of all experience levels. Guests can expect to see a variety of burlesque styles, including classic, comedic and political. Individuals of all genders and orientations over the age of 18 are welcome.

Totalsports Women’s Race
Join a “Sea of Pink” when close to 20 000 runners and walkers come together in solidarity to celebrate National Women’s Day at the iconic Totalsports Women’s Race. Participating athletes have their choice of either tackling a 10km or a 5km run. Live music will be performed, too.
Celebrating all women, the Totalsports Women’s Race launched in the Western Cape in 2001 and is now SA’s largest Nationwide Women’s Day Celebration. Unregistered athletes are urged to purchase a temporary running license in order to be eligible for participation.

He Had it Coming
From the team responsible for the multiple award-winning ‘My Fellow South Africans’ comes a similar multi-sketch entitled ‘He Had It Coming’. This new one-woman piece again features the extremely talented Kim Blanche Adonis performing sketches written by the multi-award-winning satirist Mike van Graan.
Taking its name from the lyrics of ‘Cell Block Tango’ in the hit musical ‘Chicago’, the piece uses satire, comedy, poetry, song and drama to explore and educate audiences about the scourge of gender-based violence and its related themes.

Women Breaking Barriers
Women in Tech South Africa hosts the Women Breaking Barriers – Women in Tech Networking Lunch. Great Mother Cave Indigenous Walk
The Great Mother Cave Indigenous Walk allows guests to experience the profound spiritual significance of Peers Cave and Tunnel Cave, guided by Chief Kingsley. The tour is an exploration of ancient sacred sites and offers insight into the spiritual traditions of the indigenous Khoi-San people, as well as information on the local flora and fauna.
