Alvi’s Drift, a third-generation, family-owned wine farm situated in the southern reaches of the Breede River Valley, has launched its passionately crafted, award-winning Albertus Viljoen Icon range of wines that represents its craftsmanship and commitment to the local community.

Great Wine With An Important Cause
The Albertus Viljoen Icon range is also the launch of the wine farm’s partnership with The Indaba Foundation, an institute that trains teachers and supports Early Childhood Development on the farm in the surrounding areas. Every bottle of Albertus Viljoen wine sold helps to fund this work – training teachers, nurturing young minds, and creating lasting change.
The Icon campaign teams up with local players in the fields of childhood development, climate issues, human rights and supporting green small businesses. André Shearer is the chairman of the Indaba Institute, and the founder and chairman of Cape Classics, the leading exporter of South African wines to the United States.
Catherine Constantinides is a South African climate activist, human rights defender, and internationally recognised agent of change. Sabelo Lindani is a Green SMME champion with over 15 years’ experience in conservation and sustainable enterprise.

More About These Full-bodied and Barrel-fermented Wines
The new wine range features three distinct wines – a 2023 Chenin Blanc, a 2022 Chardonnay, and a 2020 Red Blend named Bismark.
The Albertus Viljoen 2023 Chenin Blanc is pale straw in color and marks the first harvest from their “old, forgotten Chenin Blanc vineyard”. The wine features aromas of wild buchu, honeysuckle, and hints of passionfruit and spice.
The Albertus Viljoen 2022 Chardonnay is a pale lemon colour with a lime green edge. This Chardonnay features aromas of vanilla, spice, lemon zest, coconut, and honey melon. It is medium-bodied with tannins and offers a refreshing acidity with a bright lemony character.
The Albertus Viljoen 2020 Bismark features soft, silky tannins with a fruity start and a lingering finish of classic spices. It is a deep black-cherry with notes of plum, red cherry, pepper and liquorice, layered with hints of violet and mixed spice.
