April Trash Bash: Volunteer Beach Cleanup at Sunset Beach

The Two Oceans Aquarium heads to Sunset Beach on 19 April to do their bit for conservation education. This is the perfect opportunity for families to come together and learn about the dangers of plastic pollution and the importance of conservation awareness for biodiversity.

What is the Trash Bash?

The Trash Bash is an initiative dedicated to tackling plastic pollution and raising awareness about the harmful effects it has on marine ecosystems. By rolling up your sleeves and participating, you’re making a real difference for the environment while enjoying a morning at the beach.

Beach cleanups are an important way to draw people together to remove pollution from marine environments. The Two Oceans Aquarium believes strongly in the awareness-raising role of the Trash Bash events in making a difference.

What to Expect at the April Trash Bash

The April edition of Trash Bash will take place at Sunset Beach on Saturday, 19 April, from 9am to 11am. Join the clean-up this Saturday and be part of the vital mission to protect our oceans.

What to Bring:

  • Your enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Reusable gloves (gardening or dishwashing gloves work well)
  • A bucket or bag for collecting trash

Mission Blue’s Hope Spot Network

The Two Oceans Aquarium is part of the Mission Blue Hope Spot Network, which focuses on taking action to support ocean health for biodiversity growth and maintenance. Creating awareness of ocean health as an issue ensures a growing community of people taking steps to protect the biodiversity of marine areas such as False Bay.

Mission Blue is a global initiative led by legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle that inspires action to explore and protect the ocean. Currently, the Mission Blue alliance includes more than 200 respected ocean conservation groups and like-minded organizations, from large multinational companies to individual scientific teams doing important research.

Additionally, Mission Blue supports the work of conservation NGOs that share the mission of building public support for ocean protection

“Be a part of this exciting day out as we come together as a community to protect the precious biodiversity of our oceans. Let’s stop the cycle of pollution and remove litter from our beaches before it endangers the marine wildlife of False Bay,” said Helen Lockhart, Conservation and Sustainability Manager at the Two Oceans Aquarium.
