All Available Ocean Campus Courses

Grade 2-3: Ocean Funatics Course

Ocean Funatics is a specialised marine science course designed for Foundation Phase students. The curriculum focuses on interactive biology, teaching children about animal camouflage and underwater “architecture” through a hands-on approach.

By integrating scientific discovery with creative arts and crafts, the program aims to engage nature-loving learners in a tactile, adventurous environment.

This course is available in June 2026. Register here.

Grade 6: Junior Biologist Course

The Junior Biologist course is a specialised program designed to deepen students’ understanding of South African biodiversity. Led by experts, the curriculum moves beyond the classroom to provide a comprehensive look at the interconnectedness of plants, animals, and local ecosystems.

The course features a blend of field-based exploration and academic instruction, taking students on guided adventures through South Africa’s unique wetland, rocky shore, and fynbos environments. These excursions allow for in-depth studies of specialised coastal creatures, while interactive lessons at the Ocean Campus bring marine science to life through tactile exhibits and immersive activities.

This course is available in September 2026. Register here.

Grade 7: Smart Living Course

The interactive Smart Living course is designed to create eco-conscious individuals. This course focuses on the significance of environmental preservation, energy conservation, waste reduction, and the responsible use of water resources for future generations.

Participants engage in various exciting and hands-on activities, both inside the classroom and outside of it. A fascinating excursion to a nearby waste management facility is included in this course – this is always quite popular among the learners. Upon successful completion of the course, learners are encouraged to contribute to environmental causes and raise awareness about our impact on the natural environment and its invaluable resources.

This course is available in May and August 2026. Register here.

Grade 8-9: Introduction to Marine Science

The Introduction to Marine Science course is the first step before students dive into the subject of Marine Sciences. Students will become familiar with some of the various topics of Marine Sciences and, hopefully, be encouraged to consider a future in the field.

This academic course introduces students to marine biology, oceanography, and ecology in a fun and exciting way, and includes various practical activities and an excursion to a nearby marine ecosystem. Students will leave the course with the knowledge and ability to make informed decisions about their possible careers in marine sciences.

This course is available in July 2026. Register here.

Grade 10: Young Biologist Course

This adventure is designed to connect Grade 10 students with the wonders of the marine world. Through coastal explorations, close encounters with marine life, hands-on experiments, and problem-solving activities in an eco-camp context, students gain both knowledge and practical skills while building a deeper appreciation for our oceans.

The course links directly to Life Sciences and Marine Sciences, enriching their school journey while sparking a lifelong passion for the environment and providing a solid foundation for their academic and personal growth. Students also hear from inspiring guest speakers who introduce them to a variety of ocean-related careers.

This course is available in September and October 2026. Register here.

Grade 10-12: Climate Action Now

The Climate Action Now course is a programme designed for students in Grades 10 to 12, and provides a comprehensive look at the science of climate change, focusing on the critical relationship between ocean circulation patterns, greenhouse gases, and human activity. Participants examine environmental consequences, such as rising sea levels and shifting marine chemistry, while exploring mitigation strategies including renewable energy and sustainable agriculture within a South African context.

A key component of the course is the investigation of a Just Transition, which addresses the social implications of shifting energy systems and the necessity of community involvement. By the conclusion of the programme, students will be equipped to identify major environmental threats and understand the practical solutions required to manage the transition toward a more sustainable future.

This course is available in August 2026. Register here.
