A visit to Le Bonheur Reptiles and Adventures allows for the daring to get close to various types of cold-blooded creatures, from snappy crocodiles to sneaky snakes. Plus, you can turn the day trip into a weekend away, and enjoy a relaxing stay at a beautiful waterside apartment. Here’s everything you need to know.

Tour Experiences at Le Bonheur
Crocodiles are the main attraction at Le Bonheur, which hosts 270 of the powerful creatures. The estate also plays home to various snake and lizard varieties, making it a haven for reptile lovers.
Le Bonheur offers guided crocodile pond tours, in which expert guide will show you around a group of scaly crocs, ranging from hatchlings to adults.
Guests on the tour can walk on ramp ways spanning four large dams, all the while learning more about Africa’s largest reptile. If you’re lucky, you may even get a chance to view these fascinating predators in their underwater environment from Le Bonheur’s viewing cabin. Multiple tours are conducted daily, and no booking is required.
The indoor, self-guided snake and lizard exhibit is also open daily, allowing guests to learn more about these slithering creatures. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, Le Bonheur’s snake handler hosts an in-depth and interactive snake showcase at 12.10pm, in which some of Africa’s most feared creatures are introduced to the public. Booking for the showcase is advised.
After seeing the creatures, take a trip to Le Bonheur’s gift shop, which hosts a variety of crocodile and reptile memorabilia, including crocodile leather goods.

Other Activities at Le Bonheur
For those who seek a day of relaxation on the waterfront, Le Bonheur offers various water-based activities on their large, tranquil dam. The dam is stocked with bass and tilapia – but luckily no crocs! – which makes it the perfect place for a spot of fishing.
Cast a line from one of several jetties or take a jaunt in the rowboat. Fringed by willows and set against a spectacular mountain backdrop, the dam is popular among experienced anglers and novices alike. For those not keen on fishing, rent a stand up paddleboard and explore the water.
Finish off your waterside experience with a meal at Le Bonheur’s Lakeview Restaurant, which serves wood-fired pizzas made the Italian way, as well as a variety of classic light meals served by the friendly team. Take a seat on the balcony, in the waterside garden, or in the main hall, and enjoy some delicious food.
If the weather is warm, lay out a blanket on the lawn and enjoy a curated picnic hamper. Available for one or two people, the hampers contain freshly-baked bread, a paté of your choice, a selection of cured meats and cheeses, a variety of salads, a bottle of water, a sweet treat and a bottle of wine. The kids’ picnic hampers comprises chicken nuggets and chips, a juice, something sweet and a toy.

Stay at Le Bonheur
Le Bonheur’s Waterside Stays offers a variety of self-catering, farm-style waterfront apartments, with options suitable for individuals, couples and families. The apartments provide a tranquil and convenient base from which to explore the splendour of the Winelands.
Each apartment offers access to the swimming pool, braai facilities, Wi-Fi, TVs with DSTV and onsite restaurant, open in the daytime only. You can even paddle out in the rowboat and enjoy a spot of complementary fishing on the idyllic dam.
