For the twelfth time, the Clipper 2025-26 Race Route returns to the sailing hotspot of the Cape Town shores as the fleet returns to the docks of the V&A Waterfront. The Clipper Race is one of the biggest global sailing challenges, taking participants of all skill levels around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht. Here’s everything you need to know.

About the Clipper Race’s Cape Town Stopover at the V&A Waterfront
The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other. With no previous sailing experience necessary, this is a record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht. Normally the domain of seasoned pros, this supreme challenge is taken on by ordinary, everyday people.
The V&A Waterfront is a firm favourite on the Clipper Race route, and for the Race Crew who will be arriving on the back of a gruelling South Atlantic crossing from South America, they will be delighted to lap up some summer sun and all the culture the vibrant city of Cape Town has to offer.
Once the fleet of ten ocean racing yachts is docked, visitors can head down to the marina to meet the exceptional people taking on this adventure of a lifetime. Boats will be open to the public, with the opportunity to check out the Nav Station, galley, bunks and stowage, and see where each of the 20 Race Crew live when not on deck. Above deck, take the helm or try your hand on one of the eleven winches capable of lifting the sails up the 29m [95 foot] mast.
Whether you’re a sailing enthusiast or simply curious to see how the challenge participants live and work during this extraordinary challenge, make sure to head to the V&A Waterfront to see the sails in action.
The V&A Waterfront began at the edge of the Atlantic – a working harbour with a vision to connect Cape Town’s people with their ocean. What began as an industrial port has evolved into a vibrant, connected neighbourhood where business, community, and the environment coexist.
The V&A Waterfront is a place where the ocean drives work, life, and inspiration. It’s home to diverse industries and businesses that share one purpose: creating opportunity while protecting what sustains us. Every tide brings movement, collaboration, and new possibilities – proof that progress and care for the planet can go hand in hand.
