Always Breaking Bread is hosting a capsule food, wine and art experience crafted for those who appreciate slow living at its finest. The next event takes place on Monday, 29 December at La Motte wine estate in Franschhoek with its stunning vineyard views and timeless Cape architecture.
Guests can expect beautifully curated plates inspired by the estate, award-winning wines and crafted drinks, all enjoyed at an unhurried pace. Live elements and gentle music add to the serene, soulful atmosphere, encouraging flowing conversation and meaningful connection. Here’s what you need to know.

Here’s what’s included in the Always Breaking Bread experience
Gather in the garden for a welcoming ceremony: Join your host and fellow guests in the lush gardens for a glass of La Motte wine and Two in a Bush Iced Tea, as well as the official welcome
The Breaking Bread experience: Walk along the tree-lined avenue leading up to the La Motte Manor House to see the estate’s historic water mill. Here, guests gather around a table to break freshly baked bread and toast with a glass of La Motte Cap Classique
A guided art tour of the newest exhibition: Visit the La Motte Ateljee art gallery for a guided introduction to the current seasonal exhibition, titled, ROSE’D
See the farm shop and pantry: A carefully curated selection of lifestyle items that honour the quality and imagination of local artisans is on show and sale at both the Farm Shop and Spens (pantry). While you’re there, make sure to try the newly released range of Inheems body products and enjoy the selection of fynbos aromas and the marvellous moisturising properties
Settle in for a wine tasting experience: Guests will have an opportunity to taste the estate’s 2022 La Motte Syrah and 2024 La Motte Chardonnay in the Maturation Cellar/Barrel Room
And the main event, a social lunch at L’Ami Family Brasserie: The Always Breaking Bread experience ends with a long table lunch affair where you can opt for premium steak cuts, fish or a vegetarian dish, served with a generous selection of sides and salads placed family-style on the table. This seasonal menu embraces a true farm-to-table philosophy, highlighting local, traditional flavours and the warmth of open-fire cooking.
