Ster-Kinekor Tyger Valley Reopens with New Cinemas, Coffee & a VR Arena

The Ster-Kinekor at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre is reopening on Friday, 9 October 2026, with a complete makeover and the launch of Africa’s first free-roam Virtual Reality (VR) Arena in a cinema complex. Completed after months of renovations, visitors can now experience four brand-new offerings under one roof that cater to gamers, movie lovers, families, and more.

APEX

This new project at the Tyger Valley branch debuts APEX Cinema, Ster-Kinekor’s new flagship large-format viewing experience. The new model features wraparound screens that extend to the walls and ceiling, immersing audiences more fully in each film.

APEX is supported by 4K laser projection and a 16.1-channel sound system, creating an audiovisual experience that delivers unbelievable clarity and detail in every aspect.

SKX-PERIENCE

Another groundbreaking development is the SKX-Perience VR Arena, where up to six players can explore a curated games library, including high-octane shooters like The Finals and more tranquil experiences such as underwater expeditions in Ocean Depths.

The system uses state-of-the-art headsets, precision haptic controllers, and advanced spatial tracking to let each player physically walk, dodge, and interact with the games in real time, creating a hyper-realistic, out-of-home entertainment experience. The new project caters to anyone 12 and up, including competitive gamers, families, and casual users.

New cinemas

Expanding the existing Tyger Valley setup, the Ster-Kinekor complex now boasts two new Cine Prestige cinemas. This is the company’s exclusive, luxurious viewing experience, with red leather recliner seats, a dedicated lounging area, and the option of having snacks & drinks served to your seat.

Kids have more fun too, as SK is adding their beloved Kids’ Cinema concept to the remodelled location. With colourful seats, slides, and a ball pool, the Kids’ Cinemas help keep kids engaged as they watch the latest releases. These spaces are also ideal for birthday parties, as youngsters get their own cinema space designed specifically for their entertainment.

Costa Coffee

Those who prefer a cappuccino over a fruity slushy can now get their caffeine fix at Ster-Kinekor’s standalone Costa Coffee kiosk. Using Costa’s signature Mocha Italia blend, guests can now get premium coffee at affordable prices just outside the theatre.

While the stand is located within the cinema complex, Costa Coffee at Tyger Valley is also open to the general public who just want a good cup of coffee.
